Nice bro nice!!!!!!! :thumbs :thumbs

I may have to pay you to do mine at this rate, there's no way I would weld anything like that myself :eek

good job! :clap when welding ive always gone for strength over looks:thumb2 but ive only ever stick welded till recently.
im definitely going to steal your radiator relocation idea when i get round to fitting a winch.

There is loads of room behind rad before it hits the fan, but the plastic shroud that is fitted to rad to direct air flow needs to be modified so the rad can be lifted in and out as normal. Mine is buggered anyway so I've taken it off but if I decide to fit another one I will need to cut some of the bottom out so it can pass over the fan, i can't forsee any over heating problems though and I'm toying with the idea of having an uprated rad made for it :naughty

I cut a rough hole, a very rough hole, out of the bumper when I was positioning the mounting plate, I'm gonna make it a wee bit bigger. Any good suggestions on how to put the no. plate back over the hole but make it easy to remove when winch needed??

Are you having a fairlead on the front? Cos I thought about having the plate mounted with clips that push onto the rollers.
If you know what I mean :naughty

Or heat it up and bend it to the shape of the corner beside the neat hole that's above the rough hole, very rough hole:augie

Thats a flippin good idea that is mate, not having rollers though as I will be using synthetic rope. Not having rollers means nowt will stick out past the bumper, so I can hide things a bit by putting my plate over the hole, y'know, the rough one :D:doh

I've seen a spring loaded plate holder on my mates trailer, my main concern is it dropping out over bumps etc.

If you are going to use synthetic, then you must have an ally fairlead, synthetic rub against slot in tray = synthetic in 2 bits, Rick

Does an ally fairlead have rollers or are they rigid?

No it is a really smooth slot with well rounded surfaces, the rope will rub on this very hard but it will slide over the smooth surface with no problem and being relatively soft will wear quite well due to the grit the rope picks up, the outer sides on mine are visibly worn but not near replacement yet, I have got to go out to the car so will take a pic, there ya go Rick

Yeh the winch I will be getting comes with one of those ones, like you say, nice and easy on the synthetic rope. Do you carry a blanket to lay over rocks etc. so the rope doesn't get damaged Rick?

no a blanket is no good, short bits of scaffold pole work well but you need to keep an eye on them cos they can move, I have some tubular S/S shelving that I lay down and works very well, consists of 5 tubes inch or so apart, but I do tend to run over them cos my winch girl is not quick enough to pic them up, can't say I blame her it is very hard work even walking in the sort of stuff we are in most times, Rick

Some great work going on there, some really good welding too.

I am just going to ask possibly a dumb question, but as I am not normally known for this, no one has said, but others may have thought it :lol but I will ask it anyway.:doh

The Terrano is built on a chassis, the body shell part is separate from the chassis but connected via rubber body mounts only.

Have you supported the radiator bottom on the chassis and the top of the radiator to the body part, if so, you might want to think about the possible movement between the two when undergoing articulation. This could stress the radiator.

I may of course missed something, but my thought also applies to any other metal work that bridges the chassis and bodywork.

Just might be worth considering, as other modders might not be aware either.

When we did the winching course, we were told that the Roller type are only for Wire winches, as rope and synthetic rope catch and snag in the edges of the rollers and it damages the rope. As Rick says, the smooth slot type are for rope and synthetic.

Hmmm, well spotted rustic I never tought of that, the value of the forum shines again :D:thumb2

As I said before I was toying with the idea of having a custom rad made for extra cooling capability, I may go that route and have one made shorter so I can build a mount from the body. To be honest though I can't see any problems arising with how it is now.
