Just got back ..........

I had a cracking day. Met some great people. Drove some great lanes. Discovered quite a bit about my new (to me) Patrol - brilliant vehicle, but I really need to pension off the 275/65 R17 Bridgestone Dueler H/T 840's that the factory put on it from new - not the best on a wet, slippery, steep track like Leeside Road. The only (sensible) options I can find for that rim size are 265/70 R17 - either BFGoodrich All Terrains (about £140 a corner - ouch!!) or General Grabber AT2 (unless you know different/better).

If anyone uses Wayfinder and wants a list of the Wayfinder UIDs for today's lanes, so that you can enter UEFs on Wayfinder for today - please let me know (as I've already got one).

Thanks to everyone involved in organising the trip. See you on my birthday, maybe ...... 30 Dec 2007.

Cheers
Andrew

Glad you've had a good day & got to know your Patrol a bit better  As for the Duellers I binned mine with 5mm of tread left on them as I found them to be the worst tyre i've ever had as they did'nt grip wet roads & on wet grass you just sat there spinning  I think once you've changed your tyres you'll find the Patrol a different motor & all the better

Just got back. Had a fantastic day cant wait to do it again. My car is extremely dirty so Im very happy. Just need to refix my side step which came off but who cares. Thanks to everyone involved!!!

Hiya all who attened to day, it was an intresting day to say the least!

Insa remolds for off road use. the best remold money can buy - in my opinion. I would buy a set just for off road and keep your old ones for normal use. They are almost giving them away: http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/SHO...75R16_Insa_Turbo_Special_Track_Tyre_Only.html

These will be my next purchase for the Disco.

Home safe, hope you all Ok. Had a really good day out today.

Special thanks to Dinky and Iandouglas for jumping in at last minute and leading a group for me. Sorry to put on you, but I wouldn't have done it had I not thought you couldn't have coped. Well done.

Thanks to all who came, nice to meet new members, I like to have the novices in with me in case you need help but you all managed admirably today, so well done hope you all decide to have a go again.

First accesory you should all now think of purchasing is a CB radio so you can keep up on the chat and join in the banter

Lanes after dark were good too. Managed 8 without any trouble and then called it a day. Sure these may become popular in any future events.

Bed for me now as I was on nights last night and think it was Thursday?? last time I went to bed or was it Friday morning? getting old and loosing track of days now

missed a few lanes out but did others twice so cannot be bad can it.
my fault sheila said straight on i said left guess who was right.BUT dont tell her.LOL.
impressed with andrews patrol sat as steady as a rock just straddled the ruts. had to give him a bit of a tow up leeside due to the road tyres.
i was also impressed with my old truck pulling the patrol to the top without any trouble. although i suspect the patrol was only playing with me.
nice to see the c.o.r.c. lads out as well .
had in impromptue BBQ as we could nt find a chippy so thanks dinkie for the berger and andy for the K rations.
andy and lucy then took me and sheila on a night excursion .now that was realy different ,with calls of where are we ? coming over andys CB. LOL
we went up pin dale the opposite way me trying to tackle a goat track after compleatly missing the route .a few more lanes followed but we SOMEHOW finnished at a PUB "how does he do that".
a quick pint and then time to say goodbye .
set sat nav for home and off we went.got just into chesterfield and the boys in blue were doing a road side check guess who got pulled over.
good evening officer good evening sir "i liked that bit"
just a quick look around your truck tyres ect.
when i told him not to get his nice clean jacket to close as it would get dirty he said why is that then. we had a natter about where and what we had been doing and with that wished us well and sent us on our way.
and he kept his coat clean. :p
rest of trip was none without further interuptions called at tesco and filled up .£1.03.PPL :? :( 8O
arrived home and we agreed it had been a good day out .
looking forward to more days in the muddy stuff so see you all again soon.

Great day out

Just like to say thanks to all those involved in planning and running a fantastic day out, especially Andy & Lucy.

It was great to finaly meet some of you, and interesting to see some of the tweeks etc done to some vehicles.

As a novice to off road, there were certainly some interesting challenges for my standard Mistral, which it coped with far better than I could have imagined. Would have relaxed a lot more though with a bit more ground clearance and some sort of sump guard (mine has nothing)

Think I will now be looking to buy an old Disco, some rock sliders and a CB

Can't wait for the next trip

Pete & Carol

Nice idea - and I can't say that it hasn't occured to me. Luckily, it also occured to me that I'd need to buy five and the spare won't fit in the hard carrier on the tailgate.

It would also affect the speedo calibration, which is spot on now - and significantly reduce torque at the wheels in top, so would affect towing.

Having said that, if I ever come across a set of 16in steel wheels that fit, I just might put some much bigger rubber on those - BUT - I'm pondering about whether I can really live with changing wheels every time I go laning.

In any case, the Patrol seems to have way more (useful) ground clearance than the Trooper I had before, which had a bash plate under the transfer case and exhaust only about 8ins above the ground. I'd have whacked it underneath on several of the lanes we drove yesterday - but the Patrol didn't touch anywhere - so I'm well please with it stock.

Cheers
Andrew
