Insa remolds for off road use. the best remold money can buy - in my opinion. I would buy a set just for off road and keep your old ones for normal use.

Now that would be tempting - but I'd have to come across a set of 16ins steel wheels to fit the Patrol too - and then swap them over each time I went laning, which is a tad too much aggravation.

265/70 R17 General Grabber AT2 at about 100squids each seems the best "all purpose" option at the moment.

i had the 16" version on navara when first got it i was slightly worried about there road manners of such chunky tyres but neednt have worried they were exelent only isue was i was tearing tread blocks outve tyre but i drive it hard and maybe shouldve calmed down a little for tyres sake id have them on again in blink eye made truck look mutts nutts !

impressed with andrews patrol sat as steady as a rock just straddled the ruts. had to give him a bit of a tow up leeside due to the road tyres.

That was at least partly driver error (mine), rather than being down to just the Bridgestones. I didn't realise how steep Leeside was going to be and set off up in it low second. I'd have been OK if I'd been at the front, as I'd have been able to keep up enough momentum to get over the slippery bit I got stuck on - but had to slow up 'coz the motor in front was in low bottom and I kept catching it. Good as it is, the Patrol engine cannot pull low second up a one in two at about 400rpm. It will not happen again (not like that, anyway)!!! :smile: :smile:

FWIW, that's only the second time I've ever had to be recovered. Later, I had the chance to give the Terrano behind me a tug when it lost traction on a lane. It's the first time I've ever recovered someone else too!!

i was also impressed with my old truck pulling the patrol to the top without any trouble. although i suspect the patrol was only playing with me.

So was I and very thankful too - but you didn't think the Troll was just sitting in neutral? The tow strap was slack all the way up apart from the couple of feet I got stuck on. :roll:

I'll tell you one thing about the Patrol that isn't so great (compared with the Trooper I used to have). It's bigger and has lots more nooks and crannies where mud can hide from a hose pipe. It'll take another session yet - just found a load more on top of the chassis rails about level with the rear doors.

No problems what so ever,only thing i found out and nobody told me about,is if you go off road or even on gravel they pick every stone up...lol
Then when you go out on the open road,they all come flying off up into the wheel arch!! :lol:
First time i stopped coz i thought something was wrong...

I would like to say thanks to Cameraman and lady in Purple/red for a great day greenlaning. (This in not a complaint its just a point. if its taken as one im sorry) Shame it started late by people arriving late, it seems there was confusion about what time you should be there and what time we should be starting. Perhaps this could be sorted before the next one. I might have even got it wrong
I would also like to thank Jonathanm and wife for offering advice, gate opening and a safe great days greenlaning.

First accesory you should all now think of purchasing is a CB radio so you can keep up on the chat and join in the banter

I agree completely with that. A CB might have saved me a bit of embarrassment on Leeside Road. :smile:

I know nothing about CB - so, what gear should I be looking for? Ideally I don't want to have to drill holes anywhere. What do you chaps use?

I have a Uniden 200 its an old unit and still considered, by some, as one of the best. It cost £20 off ebay delivered and then I got a small aerial complete with mag mount and cable for £13 off ebay also. I noticed that quite a few had the same aerial.

You can get 4x4 starter kits new from £70 all in ready to go.

Sometimes people get number plate sticky pads to secure to the dash??

hi all.
ground clearance in saturdays run i got hung up on the rear diff a couple of times ,due to not picking my line with more care.
this next bit is more for the newbies
if you have others to rescue you i suggest you experiment with the lines available take your time DONT DO ANYTHING RISKY but learn what your truck will clear and that way you will build up a sight picture of what you can drive over ,angles of lean ,crossed up on ruts (ie) front wheels in one set of ruts rears in another.
my own speciality is TRYING to climb trees as i am sure others will point out
see you on the muddy side.

i found a little water but most was coming straight down so got through it ok.
we found some amber liquid cider i think it was called had no trouble with that eather :wink:

16" steels and possibly alloys on Jap fitments are kept in stock at www.4x4at.co.uk discount to club members. I had them on my patrol :wink:
