if it aint stamped or marked as tested to certain load then don't assume it is just because so & so said so!

I agree completely. The point I was trying to make earlier, perhaps not very well, is that the ropes often sold on Ebay as having a breaking strain of 5 tons and selling for about a tenner are not up to recovering a seriously stuck 4x4.

We shouldn't take unnecessary risks with safey.

Cheers
Andrew

yes see your point if in doubt check first and make sure you are dealing with the SWL not the breaking strain!

thanks for not getting the hump, I do sometimes inadvertently rub people up the wrong way

Thats something i try never to leave home without, though sometimes it does jump ship

Well ive had my new recovery strap delivered today and Im not going to tell you anything about it cause you might say its rubbish and i wasted my money 8O . well ok its red!!

well i have it on good authority that the red ones are ........GREAT!

I snapped a tow rope a week or two back but hat was YELLOW, I will know better next time, come to think of it the last rope i snapped before that was BLUE so maybe we are onto something!

I think thats a good idea! practice the safe towing/recovery technics of a stranded vehicle ( I assume mine then)

If ive not got my "off roader" by then I will come in my mav, so can scary be changed to mean no trees and bushes as im getting arm ache from polishing :D

I may as well share my strap info so you can tell me if ok or not!!

10 mtr woven (like ratchet strap) with 5 ton breakstrain with loops.

So I can either tow from a distance if needed or double it up to make it stronger??

Comic their a great bit of kit, but no good for changing a wheel on a T2 thow as T2's don't have any where strong enough to use them. A custom set of rock sliders with a holes in to take the landy fitment would be the only way to be able to change a wheel

Steve Have a look on hi lift website, they do a adaptor for the wheel ,thats what im getting ,so when it grounds out use theLift-Mate: LM-100 and the jack to lift the, truck up.a waffle board or spacer under the wheel and reverse off. Also usefull on caravan with axle stands no more crawling on floor. Great piece of kit - work really well with adaptor, but you really need replacement sills to jack from with your jap motors lads. The jack itself can be useful (if used correctly) to lift wheels of beached motors on rocks

I can only echo what the man said, and add, if you want to try mine in Dec feel free as I have both types of adaptor so should be able to lift most types of 4x4.

Practising recovery on green lanes is very much looked down upon unless you are really stuck. But I can take you places to get you stuck  -rotfl- But seriously its better left for a play day site or perhaps in a quarry like Pindale where we cannot be seen by the general public and rumblers & grumblers. That doesn't mean to say that we can't take a break at a convieniant point and discuss differant types of recovery.

Couldn't agree more Andy - recovery is best not done on 'green lanes' as they are legal RoW, in the same way you wouldn't get your recovery gear out on the M6 !!

We ran a dedicated off road day last year for the boys n girls of NFMOC at my dad's farm and to make it a bit more interesting, we had a short 'classroom session' albeit in a field talking about:

recovery
use of waffles
approach / departure angles
etc

I even gave the attendees a brief handout re: off road driving - all made up with the NFMOC logo, etc. I've had a laptop crash on me since then mate, if I can find it I will and forward it on to you - might be of use to some of the newbies (you know me - hopefully, they'll find it's written in plain English)

Thanks Steve, It'll be very welcome.

No one is too good that they can't learn something.

I learn something new every time out
