As it's not actually going to be pressurised with fluid as a normal box would be from the PAS pump I could imagine it would seize up eventually and start to drag as it wasn't being lubricated. I know what you are attempting to do by trying to introduce drag into the setup though.

I'm going to cut the teeth off the shaft just in case I do have to in fact cut the steering box up and weld a plate on the top.

I love the jobs bro!!!! But I don't like getting the itch :( I end up with oil all over my groin :lol

Basically this conversion just gives you a big strong steering idler.
I filled mine with gear oil to keep it lubed up.
Get a steering damper on there aswell and you will have a seriously super strong set up :thumb2

Still super strong

So I've been aquiring parts all week and thought I'd have a play today

So it turns out that just bolting the box to the chassis without chopping it would be very very close and without some wheel spacers and on full lock with a bit of bounce I dont want to kill a tyre and or my steering so decided it's getting the chop.

Didn't even need to remove the idler to know there was going to be problems

For starters the teeth needed to be taken off the shaft

I'll be cutting using 0.8mm slitting discs as the hardened steel was so so strong on the shaft and it looks like the box will be the same. I'll be chopping as per makeitfits pictures :bow

Here's the extended sized bolts nuts and washers

Tomorrow might not go as planned depending on how long it takes me to get to Cardiff and back, going to look at a non running 55 plate LWB in Cardiff for silly silly money :naughty

I'd like the box ready to take to work next week so I can see if there's any off cuts of metal in the metal work skip again that I can chop up and attach to it

Did not think that Pete would have been chopping a box without good cause, what you really want of course is a LHD box, this would also correct the slight imbalance that your spacers will introduce to the the position of the scribe d arc of the box compared to the old idler arm, I noticed on Alex motor that there is implied a small amount of twist to the drag link that the Rose joints were fighting, Rick

I'll watch out for that Rick, it turned out that my casting was slightly larger than most and as a result I have gone for 45mm spacers

Looks like its going well mate. Confidence is key.

You've got it, too muh scaremongering, and I love to learn
