You don't benefit from the lift with standard shocks in terms of flex. LWB springs or dislocation comes will give the same lift result, Longer shocks the dislocation cones will help to relocate the springs after flexing lots. You would potentially have to cable tie or keep the LWB springs down if you had longer shocks anyway

Fair points mate, makes sense actually, I think I'm going to keep standard shocks and go for LWB springs :sly

That will do for what I'm after :thumb2

Well I've just read Stinka's thread which was stickied and have opted against the idea now

http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17055&highlight=dislocation+cones

It appears that you have to do a bit of bodging to get the spings to stay in with cable ties and welding rods :doh plus you don't benefit from the full height unless you swap the shock absorbers

I think I'm just going to do what I did with the Maverick and just swap the SWB springs for a set of LWB springs which lifts the rear significantly but not to the point where you need to swap the shocks, however swapping the shock s does make the ride smoother on the rear as the springs will be somewhat more compressed than the SWB ones making them firmer

I'll then wind the torsion bar up on the front to match the height of the back and then I'll see if Santa gets my letter for a 2" body lift kit :sly

There no bodging at all

The cable ties aren't needed and the welding rods hold the springs to the bottom mount so they don't fall out under full dislocation. Same as the retaining bracket on a LR, not a safety issue

You need longer shocks to gain anymore articulation in any case

Ah!!! Stinka

That's reassuring, you've made me think twice again now :lol

This thick welding rod is just twisted around to hold the spring to the bottom mount should it fully dislocate, it's under no tension ever

The cone is like this, but I cable tied the rubber in place to the cone. Don't do that, thro the rubber away and U trim the cone down so it just fits into the top of your spring. The cone is then bolted through from the top under your stock mount. You can also get a bit of 12mm plate to act as a spacer to give u a bit more lift

Nice thread, and very nice truck mate! :bow

.. reads like a story ... next chapter please :p

Message for banshee, I'd get a set of +2 shocks, even the standard lwb shocks wont be able to extend with all that gear. :thumb2

OK Guys

Update time I guess as it's been a while, no major updates but a few nice touches I've done :thumb2

Firstly, I sold my Private Plate which also means I'm going to have to change the Thread Title too, first time I've ever dabbled with one so took longer than it probably should have :lol

DVLA then assigned the original plate back to the car which was LM04 CTZ, however I have spotted a very very nice plate for the price of £250 which is my full surname with 02 in the middle of it so I'm well chuffed and will be purchasing that soon funds permitting

Here's a pic of the car with the new plate on, this was when I went down to Lambourn in Berkshire, I also visited Aldbourne. I only went because I wanted to see some of the filming locations that were used in a recent E4 TV Drama called Glue (awesome, well worth a watch!!!)

Dodgy Running

Me being a little naive to how random Nissan were with fitting bits to different aged vehicles I presumed that my Terrano wouldn't have come with a Banjo/Mini Filter in the IP

I was having a mare of a time diagnosing this however, I am glad that I went into a tank as yet again, leaves in my swirl chamber :doh

Ripped the integral mini filter out of the bolt and all has been good since :thumb2

I'm a big fan of our workshop downloads but the one for this is slightly long winded, you can actually get to the bolt by using a 2 extension bars, a flexi head and a long reach 14mm socket with a ratchet :sly by going behind the power steering pump belt tensioner as seen in the pic below

Here was the filter when I'd finally fished it out

Lift pics to come soon when I can get it done, will be after Edinburgh now in the new year :D

so THATS where it is on an 04...mines an 03 but the same I think. I'm going to investigate mine and have a bash.

those wind deflectors look ace, I will order some!

Those wind deflectors look the same as mine. Got mine from ebay for about £30ish from a polish supplier I think, mine were a set of four and a dodle to fit. TheY are grwat, means you can crack the windows open a bit without getting drips in to the car.

Guys guys guys come on pay attention

I've organised club discount through the forum :thumbs

"Club197" will get you 10% off your order direct from ClimAir

If you want the darker tint ones, they can get these specially made for you if you ask nicely however they take 2 weeks longer to come from Germany and cost £22 extra IIRC

Braved the -2 and the snow last night and was under the car :splif:

Removed bump stops and fitted a set of LWB springs :thumb2

Got to grab my +2" shocks from James, I'll chuck those on and re-index the front at the same time then hopefully I'll get my +2" body lift fitted before the May off roading weekend :sly

Who needs spring compressors ;)

If you'd undone your ARBs the springs would just have fallen out :p... then you could just have kept them off ;)

Are you not better just trimming the bump stops as removing them will risk the shocks bottoming out on full flex won't it? Maybe not if you still have your ARBs though as won't flex as easily :nenau

Seat Swap

I brought a set of black seats from James ages ago to go in my Maverick as I didn't really like the horrible bluey ones that were in it, I tried Grey leathers for a while and didn't like those either :doh

These seats out of my Maverick were originally out of a late high spec Terrano but crucially Pre-Dacia era, these are the last seats made before Dacia took over and as part of their cost cutting exercise changed the seats and the later ones are terrible quality, for example they used thinner material so they wear through on the bolsters quicker, the pockets at the back are also a lot shallower and the elastic in them is rubbish.

So I swapped them over tonight, I used Ray's trick with the resistor from Maplins to trick the car into thinking the seat was there still then tucked the wiring back under the carpet.

Another job that I had to do which I had forgotten about was swapping the side plastics as the Maverick seats still had the blue ones.

Bolt them in and valet sprayed and scrubbed them (can scrub harder when bolted down, they don't move)

Pics to come

Also I've just ordered my 2" Bodylift kit from Xpajun for £63, free postage so better crack on with doing these torsion bars :sly
