I've had that one too on my Maverick Doug, I was terrified to go poking around in there though because of the air bag :O

Is it any good?

Cheers,

What one are you going for now, I not Brian's one that he raved over died, and he then went for a "Branded" one, but it was 2 DIN.

How did you fix the facia in, in the end.

Basically, Suz's wants a new radio for Christmas, so it looks lie I will be having to do this mod...

Ah right, I got one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Si...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649, I turned mine upside down and fibre glassed over the storage slot which I chopped off at the back, I put a hazard switch in the middle of it and I'm planning the put two smaller switches either side.

I'm going to fasten it in with screws from the inside, it's a decent fit as is but will probably move when the stereo is in or I'd be lazy and not bother :lol

I'll get some pics on tmoro.

Right then, ran out of sunshine so had to take a pic in torchlight, I don't have the thin clip on surround for the head unit or it would look better, I put the head unit at the bottom so it lined up with existing space for old stereo, not screwed it in yet but it is rock solid like this, I will still put a couple of screws in when I fit the wiring harness.

Looks good... is it just the way you have taken the picture, or does the radio lean back?

It is leaning a bit I think, I pushed a bit hard on the left so its a wee bit further back on that side too I think, it's an old cage though which has probably seen more screwdrivers than a cocktail bar. I will fit it properly when time and botheredness coincide but I'm just not feeling it, especially in this feckin' freezing weather, on the plus side I've had the back end out at low speed a few times :naughty

Cheers, I have ordered one, so will see what I can do with it now... Just got to find a single DIN Android radio for her, that I don't feel is going to die within the year...

I have found the truck to be a bit skittish when pulling away at a junction and turning at the same time in the ice, and when I first had her, I changed down into first gear going down a short hill to a set of traffic lights in the snow, to use engine braking to slow me down, rather than brake. With the engine being such high compression, instead of the wheels driving the engine, the engine kindly slowed all the wheels simultaneously, but instead of that slowing the car, it caused me to start to slide as the wheels were now going slower than the car was travelling. Won't fall for that again... :augie

Yeh compression must be quite high on th 2.7s, 1st gear in low box on tickover has driven me up some very steep bumpy stuff with no problems, flippin awesome. I've not had any real problems with grip though, bfg at's are good in this weather, and jiggly has the new ones on with the snow flake symbol on them doesn't it Clive?, doesn't it?, Clive?? :lol

Ar$3...:lol

Had some motivation for getting the stereo working today, I found the one I was looking for but thought lost forever while I was rummaging through the garage. So I went to Halfords and bought the adaptor wire and I now have sweet sweet music again :D

I got the head unit nearly all the way back but what I really need to do is get my hand right up the back of the dash to manoeuvre them to one side.

I scuffed the new surround a bit but not fussed about it, when I have hydro dipped it I'm going to paint with some really hard clear coat, I have cracked the "surrounds surround" though which will need fixing :doh
Should look good with two of these either side of the hazard switch http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SmartSwit...var=441322709246&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649, can't decide between green and amber though, obviously green will match the rest of the illumination and the stereo can be allsorts of different colours to match whatever....

Nice work mate :thumb2

Can't beat getting rid of the standard stereo :lol

And finding your favourite CD :clap

Looking good... Still making my mind up on the Switches, I do prefer rocker switches in a car, and having already gone for the ARB ones in the centre console, I may go for matching ones on the facia. Only problem is, I think they may look wrong running across, rather then up/down.

I like toggle switches, big silver ones that feel positive and make a cool noise lol. I will get some and mount them on the ceiling, don't know what I will use them for but I've always wanted overhead toggle switches like astronauts do :lol

Nice looking stereo, some of them seem really garish these days.

Yeh it's not a new one, it was Andys but he never got round to putting it in the truck, no guesses as to why :lol he had it in a few of his other cars before it though. I like the simple old school stuff like this, it reminds me of me, loud and simple :lol:D

I know feeling, I had a roof console in the Vitara, and had the CB, plus all the switches for the spot lights up there... it even had a drop down storage area for my Sunglasses, that had a damper in the hing, so when you pushed it, and let go, it would lower slowly, sliding the glasses into your hand...

I have the "Missile" toggle switches on the dash of mine, for the Ambers, and bright rear whites, so they can't be put on accidentally. It was childish, but when I saw them, I just had to find a use for them...:D
