Out on the graft outside again last night after work, time was mostly spent prepping parts for paint with the wire brush on the angle grinder then when I lost the light in the garden I took to the garage and got the paintbrushes out :thumb2

I got under the truck to remove the foil ready to paint the rear axle and glad I did!!! It was pitch black at this point and the only light under the truck was that of my head torch.

What in the daylight looked to be a real nice coverage of Waxoyl turns out to be a very sub standard job, I was very thorough in application last time however all I can think that has happened is that in some areas it hasn't gone on thick enough however the chassis appeared to be the right colour probably due to the spirits in it "wetting" the area and then evaporating

It seems that in some of the tricky areas and some areas in plain sight just need more Waxoyl  :bow

I'm off to purchase another 5 litres at lunch and will be applying again tonight by torchlight in the dark, the LED gives off such a nice bright clear light that it really does show all the poorly applied areas. It's just got to be done right otherwise there was no point starting.

Also ordered a new set of tie rod ends for it both sides and a set of lower ball joints as I ordered the wrong ones first time around :doh

Strong progress

So progress has been flying the past few days

2nd lot of Waxoyl has been applied and I'm happy with the coverage all over now :thumb2

I've just been cleaning parts up, painting and gather new parts up before the big rebuild, it's getting exciting now

Here's the tank being rebuilt

Nice and clean inside

Wow Banshee, I’m totally staggered at the detail you are going to with this truck. You really are going to have a solid truck for many years to come. :clap

I’ve just given your thread a 5 star rating as you deserve it.

Aye, you're a very thorough lad Zac.
I think we can all learn a thing or two from you:thumbs

Thanks for the kind words guys.

It's been nice to do a proper job on a truck that doesn't need to go anywhere, it gives you the opportunity to be able to leave it and come back when you have the right bits and bobs to ensure you do the job right :thumb2

Lower Arms, Torsion Bars and Hubs painted last night.

Ordered new front shocks yesterday, not many bits needed now :clap

Am I right in saying you already had lwb springs going in the back and +2 inch shocks for the back also?

I've just put a set of LWB springs on it that I had spare in the garage which have given the rear about another inch, when the torsion bars go back on etc I'll adjust the front to suit.

Just need to buy up Blockys wheel spacers now :naughty

More work last night, got 4 more parts to strip and paint tonight then its full speed ahead with the refit of stuff I've got then only bumper reenforcer to strip and paint once I've sourced one.

Popped to Coventry on my lunch break yesterday to meet a fairly new outfit that are starting up in the Japanese scene and managed to get an absolute bargain on a set of tie rods, so cheap I'm not even allowed to tell you :lol :lol

Especially impressed with these new Sachs front shock absorbers, the quality is insane for the money

Back at it again today for a bit more work.

Tank and guard ready to go back on, pipework from car to tank cleaned up and will be getting all new jubilee clips and another filler neck saved from going into a hole :D painted it and ready sat in the pile to fit too now.

Interested to hear people's views on this one, the rear shock absorbers were in good condition when tested just looking a bit shabby so refurbed them, the plastic upper sheath has come up a treat and I took the shock body back to bare metal and they shined up nicely, so nicely that I couldn't face painting them black which was the original intention but instead I've finished them as shiny as they would go and I've decided to clear lacquer them.

I love the brushed metal look and think it's really nice and breaks up the very very black underside of the truck a little and adds a bit of interest.

Thoughts?

Then set about rebuilding the passengers side CV so I could make a start at re-assembling the front left of the truck

When its being used - avoid puddles

Wow that's impressive under body preparation.

Whatever you do keep it "ON" road and avoid puddles, better still use in dry weather only.

Thanks guys, doubt it will stay that clean for too long but at least it gets a fresh 2nd start in life :naughty

Seriously Zac, due credit to you, with that kind of attention that truck will last you out, :bow, Rick
