Just having a look at this thread again, did you decide against painting the diffs a different colour and just waxoyl them?

Not much left to do now on the 3 litre, it's pretty much a case of putting the wings and front bumper back on, then upper arms, front shock absorbers then a few special bolts still outstanding for the torsion bar trunions and then I'll be able to put the front wheels back on and then set the ride height at the front.

I'm not sure about the colour match on the wings though yet until I've cleaned and waxed it all, I'm hoping it's not too out otherwise I'll have to get them redone again.

Shouldn't be too bad, I was only comparing by head torch at night and the wing was still dusty from the bodyshop and the truck still has Waxoyl over spray on it so probably not the best time to compare paintwork

Will never be as bad as when I had my Mk2 XR2 which was red and re-sprayed.

It looked fabulous........

As long as the bodyshop colour matched an existing panel rather than the paint code, you should be fine.

Wasn't an option the car was in bits and pieces and couldn't be moved at the time that I sent the wings off to be repaired.

If they are crap then I'll end up getting them redone, going for absolute perfection with that one.

First New Year Update

So I've been slacking a little over Xmas and into the new year with the 3litre but back at it now and it's almost ready for the road again.

Friday I got underneath it and finished off a few bits, wheels are back on now and everything underneath is bolted up and back on. It's just exterior stuff now really and a few other finishing touches.

I was working on a nice mod for the glow plug relay too, I've modded another waterproof lunchbox with some more Skintop metal conduits and relocated it as per the pics below, nice and clever and pretty cheap too

No chance of that ever getting cruddy ever again thank you very much.

I got it all back together and started it and remembered about the rattle I had from the intercooler cover. I took it off and looked at it and a thought occurred to me, as far as I'm aware the ZD30 is a ZD30 and the Patrols have a nicer cover that goes over the intercooler so I think I'm going to swap it for one if I can find one.

Update on this truck as many of you will not know the goings on unless you are moving within my inner circles :naughty

My brother has brought the truck from me and other than having the 17" alloys resprayed matte black and having some BFGoodrich AT's fitted, it's pretty much as I sold it to him. He's been looking after it and has recently found himself having to use it for work now.

He came to me a few weeks back saying that he'd noticed that 3rd and 5th gear were very very noisy but 4th was silent. We discussed possible causes and decided the best way forward was to drop the oil and refill. Grabbed x5 bottles of 75w-90 GL4 from Halfords on my trade card and he turned up at mine to do the job.

Refill plug cracked ensuring we could refill, we cracked the drain..................

So as it stands he's preparing to source a new box :doh
