I will pop a picture of the rail on here in a bit incase you are not sure which piece i am on about....For god sake im kicking myself now!:doh:mad:

I know im beginning to think that this may be a more expensive project than i had first thought!:doh

oh dear. i removed mine yesterday, and I can understand how you have broken it. I had to use two spanners to hold the first injector in place, thus stopping the rail from bending, what a pain!!

Anyway, wouldnt this be a fairly cheap part, from a breakers??

Easy part to replace as i did exactly the same :dohBetween Nissan & Ford they had the lot in stock so decided to replace the hole bloody lot for about £50's :thumbs
I would of thought you could get it from a breakers well easy :thumbs

Just out of interest why are you removing the head? I ask this as I've got a water leak from some where at the top of the engine at the back end on the drivers side. I'm hoping it's a core plug which I need to investigate further when the weather is better.

hi jim I had to remove the head because as soon as i started it the coolant hoses would imediatly preassure up...i did try some k-seal first just for a cheap fix and although didnt work in mine im sure may cure yours as long as it is only a pin hole leak....if it is a core plug you might find its too big of a hole....when you say you have a water leak...do you mean its leaking externally from somewhere or going straight into the sump?

Hi and thanks for the reply. Tried K-Seal too but no joy:( I'm hoping it's a core plug as there's no pressure from the expansion bottle when running and there's no sign of mayo in the filler cap or dip stick. Do you think it's possible to remove inlet manifold without touching the injectors or pipes?

Thanks
Jim

Hi all just to let you all know i have managed to get one from cncfabs on here for £18 so well chuffed.

Im told it is easy to snap these darn things and was only removing it so that when i send head away they dont break it!:doh

I was using two spanners but it was stuck solid and with hiindsight it would have been easier to remove whilst head was still fixed to car rather than with the head slipping and slidding on work bench! the only thing i learnt was that the easiest way to do it in this situation was to put two spanners on i think 1 x 21mm And 1x 19mm and put them so that they are facing out the same direction and hold the head with one hand and pinch the spanners together with the other hand! if you can understand haha:doh

yes i removed head without taking too much off and managed to get exhaust and turbo off as one . the biggest problen is a metal pipe that runs around the back of the head joining the inlet and exhaust manifold together! i managed at great pain to get the two bolts holding it undone at inlet manifold end..this gives you a small bit of play but you need two people to prise the exhast and inlet manifolds apart with a bar or long piece of wood as i used to avoid damage....(obviously once head bolts are all undone) and lift head off.
I must admit this was a bigger job than i had imagined and finding all the bolts holding ancillary part too ages i.e bolts around thermostat haousing/water pump arent obvious and on of the bolts in thermostat housing actually goes staright into block so have to remove that too.

Just a thought where is the water loss going then?

The water is running down the block from the head area towards the back of the engine above the starter. When you see a photo of the head there is a core plug next to the inlet ports. I'm hoping to try and glance with a mirror or something. Water seems to gather when engine has cooled on the ledge where head and block join if you know where I mean. If I'm luck the worst I'll need to do is remove the manifold. Not looking forward to doing this but can't afford someone else to do it for me.

Jim

PS glad you got the pipe, he's a diamond guy as he's helped lots of members out.

Hi jim....i cant say as i have ever seen water coming right out between the head and block externally....im not saying it isnt head gasket by any means and it does sound like a core plug....just out of interest how much water are you puitting in each day/week?

About a pint a week but not doing many miles.

I dunno if its head gasket....Jim says it was fine before taking it into garage, i.e. no leaks. He gets new starter, then finds the leak. I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like somethings been knocked during the starter removal replacement. Its pretty tight down there, and if someones been a bit rufty with the starter, could easily have knocked a core plug...what you think??

i would have thought that you would have to be seriously rough to damage a core plug! another thought is that the heater matrix hoses run along there and its poss on of those is leaking and maybe running down onto block....its a hell of a job to find water leaks as everything gets a wash with it but you have to have a really bright light and just start from the highest point and just work your way down feeling and expecting everything....i had a water leak on the vitara that was quite bad and turned out to be the water pump inner seal but when driving would just wash over the whole of the front of the engine and with the air flow around the engine whilst moving made it really difficult to locate at first as even moved water upwards....i eventually preassure washed the whole engine thoroughly and then put in some really bright coolant and hey presto fount it weeping from breather hole in water pump...good luck jim:thumbs

Hi Nerdy sorry to of hijacked yout thread:eek:

That's an idea? you say the heater hoses run up there? Clivvy would they be shown in one of those photo's that you emailed me?

Surely it's more likely a hose would spring a leak and K-Seal wouldn't seal a hose would it?
