I tried a different switch when i first had the issue and made no difference.
I will unplug it and leave the tester in line and see what happens:thumb2

Was it a new switch? If not you can get them for £9 on ebay. Worth a punt.

was one of of a breaker but worked fine before it was took off.
Might be worth just grabbing a new one at that price:thumb2

My Mrs 3 Ltr has the same relay and fuse set up, so tested it today, the relay clicks on when ignition turned on but does not go off for a few seconds after key turned off, so a timer is involved, I have no idea where to look but that I would think is the problem, Ray f would be the guy to ask, Rick

Appreciate you having a look.
This evening when i finished work i unplugged the plug from the back of the ignition switch and put my tester in line.
So far it's been ok but it took almost 3 hours yesterday before it started acting up.

As for the delay i can only assume it's fed by the timer control unit on top of the fuse box in the driver's side foot well.
That controls the interior lights,key in ignition chime,lights left on etc.
If i have a faulty unit it might not be powering down properly when ignition is turned off:nenau

Am I right in thinking you have a 3 Ltr, if the timer unit is the same you could do a swap to prove it, Rick

I've got a good one winging it's way to me from Mr T Doug.
The thought crossed my mind about pulling the one off the 3.0ltr but want to avoid stripping things off it if i can.

I hate faults i can't see.
I will just keep plodding on with it as and when i can.

Just working up to braving the cold then going out to fit the new TCU Dougie has sent me,cheers mate.

Fingers crossed it does something positive.

It seems to have done the trick(touch wood):thumb2
Fitted the TCU this morning,connected the battery and she fired straight up no problems.
Ran it up to temp and tested everything was working as it should.
Left my multi meter in line all day to monitor the current draw and it stayed at a steady 20 milli amps.
True test will be if it's drained the batery over night but I've not had the relay starting to act up after a couple of hours like before.
There is still an issue with the passenger side front door not locking but I've confirmed that is a bad actuator as I've got power to the plug when i tested the pins as shown in the manual.
Will swap that for a spare i have in the morning.

Sounds like a good result then, damn electronics on a motor were never a good idea, in fact even in houses, got called to a long term customer the other day, no heating, did all the normal checks and found that none of the 3 motor valves were operating, could not accept that all 3 had failed so enquired as to the status of the control system, they struggled to work it out, it is one of these all singing and dancing control by phone thingies that while I installed it a few years ago I never got very interested in its operation anyway customer is getting older and not so able to get to grips with its complexities, turns out his wife had changed the batteries and in the process had reset the time to 4am so at 1pm they had no heat, Rick:doh

Daughter recently had a new boiler fitted with one of the hive control units.
Mine does exactly the same.
It's just i have to get off my arse and walk a few feet to adjust the thermostat or override the timer:lol

Just a quick update since i fitted the new TCU.
All good :lol
Still have a few wiring niggles with the rear lights but that will be sorted out at the weekend.
The main headace is the ABS.
All sensors have been tested and are within the spec in the manual so I'm thinking it's probably one of the front reluctor rings.
Hopefully get it looked at and diagnosed this weekend.
