Its down to the driver who is in charge of the vehicle to make sure the vehicle is legal to be on the road...
Before we leave our yard we clean a minimum of 2 foot off the back of the box & i personally wont pull out of the yard until all the snow is off the cab.!

Again, its down to the driver.!

You wouldn't get out of your bath or shower & get dressed without drying...

i agree in the law yes remove the snow no problem with that at all and unless i am going to the local shop for supplies i will remove the snow

but i dont expect to get points on my license and a £65 fine for not removing something i didn't actually do my self, that is treating me like a person who has been speeding up and down the roads, or drivign on their phone or driving in a dangerous manner

i dont call a little bit of snow that comes off a roof, bear in mind i am only talking an inch or 2 of snow over a roof that 2ft by 2ft

what really is that amount of snow going to do, when 1 if its snowing the wipers should be on and you should be at least 3 car lengths away from me :nenau

Personally speaking, anyone who makes dangerous road conditions more dangerous through sheer laziness is making my life a misery

:thumb2 :clap

nice to see you back

we're all entitled to our opinions, however generalized and speculatively innacurate they are...............imho ;)

Karl Are you really saying you expect a hgv driver to get on the roof of his trailer and clean off the snow, it aint that they are exempt from anything it just goes to show how much notice you take of the hgvs around your neck of the wood as a lot of trailers now have curtainside material used for a roof that rolls back or are made from 1/4 inch fibreglass roll material that would give way and youd come crashing down inside the trailer, and they are also anything from 11 ft to 14ft 6 high,

why dont you see that its commonsense and to your advantage to clean you roof as if you have a chap on a motorbike behind you he could be killed, simply by YOUR SNOW blowing onto him, now dont say hes to close as it lingers for yrds when your following someone. now he aint got any windows or wipers or for that matter a roof to clean

With out this becoming an on sought...
The point is simple...
Laziness is frowned upon by the average & professional motorist & the fact of the matter is that you should clean your car before setting off for your own sake & other road users.!

After all it could be a member of these inconsiderate motorists family that could be hurt due to their lazyness.

We must all think about our actions and what we can do to prevent accidents / incidents from happening, as if we are honest with ourselves, the current weather is not common in this country and we are not as experienced/familiar as some driving in these conditions.

End of story for me

as i said i agree

but again dont expect any one to get a fine or points for not doing it, as that is just piss taking

now i can get on my high horse if i want

in my 11 years as a driver, i have never had an accident, never been done for speeding, never have been given a fine by a police officer, and i have never been given a single point on my licence, in this time i have only ever been pulled twice, once when i just got a car and it showed as not insured and 2nd when i had a bad earth that put an indicator on when i braked

oh and forgot to mention i also hold a bike licence as well had a zzr 1100 just sold a cbr400rr befor getting the mav still have a dr350s

Karl, I dont think anyone is getting on their high horses at all, and I would gladly swap you licences as I would have a extra 19 yrs before I got to the stage of having a medical, but you cant just make statements without understanding the facts of what conditions a hgv driver is upagainst in todays climate,, I ve posted many a post relating to my own experiences involving the law and vosa and highways agency, yet as you my licence is clean, but when youve also seen idiots driving around in vehicles that arent properly prepared for conditions like we have this week it gripes you, as Im sure you can appreciate. Most people wouldnt understand that simple things like icy moisture in the air can affect airlines etc and that diesel waxs up in cold weather etc etc. We all have a view and I appreciate what your saying that the weather is beyond your control, but that aint a excuse when you get pulled by the police. I aint against them most of the time and they can be arsey but they have a job to do as we all do, and if a few tickets to the idiots makes the rest of use sharpen up and abide then Im all for it in honesty, as most of the police Ive come into contact with are ok when you speak in commonsense langauage and dont try and be a clever dick.

It must be your round as your on more money than an ageing, washed up,scruffy arsed, hairy arsed class 1 hgv driver with 29 yrs experience surely

:naughty :naughty :naughty

oh i agree with the law side of it, and i wouldnt leave a 6" pile of snow on me roof, i guess i took it as any amount of snow up their like an inch or so.

and agree that most people are ill equipped or prepared to drive in the snow and alot of them cant even in 4x4's, saw a woman lock up at our junction in a defender today and almost hit the parked car behind mine on the opposite side of of the road.

now on the subject of policemen i have to disagree with you their but only i part , in cornwall the police were fine and helpful, in manchester tho they are absolute arse holes on the most part their is not talking to most of them as they are right and you are wrong even when its in black and white, take this my farther inlaw was driving my old car and he was pulled they said he had no insurance and that they were taking the car, now he phoned me i explained that i had put him on my insurance and he was insured, the police officer disagreed with me and put the phone down on me, the car was towed away, when i went down to the police station i handed over the insurance doc and complained that the car was impounded with out an grounds, i was told by the sargent behind the desk that if i want going to pay they would have the car crushed, now ok not a problem also they wouldnt accept my printed insurance cover note so i had to wait 3 days for that to arrive even when my insurance said it was fine, went back down to the police station to pay my release fee only to find they have added 4 days of storage to it, was not happy.

another example of Manchester's finest my sister had been attacked by her ex whilst pregnant and all they said was dont go near him, when he came round the house the next day they told her they were busy and they would send some one round tomorrow, folowing that he was given a injunction not to be near the road etc and 5 days latter the police were called again to say he was at the gate and 7 hrs later they phoned here up to say that some one will be their tomorrow, dont they do a great job

sorry daved i wasnt aiming at other area's as a general rule they are fine if you are, i have a family friend in the met and he is a great bloke :thumbs

i probably made me sound worse than i actually am, just annoyed that their is something else we have to pay a fine for

ill shout you all a drink when i see you :thumb2

Karl, whilst I agree that "they" aint perfect I could be on here till 4 in the morning telling you of incidents that Ihave witenssed and been part of which show the police in a very dim light but, its the same as everything theres good and bad, I aint got a answer for you as to what should or shouldnt happen to improve the situation, but just do me and all on here a favour and dont get fined for having 6 inches of snow on ya roof in the morning, bet youll be looking for cars with snow on the roof thou on the road to work lol.
