on a side note if i wanted to add a boost gauge i would just add the T peice to the bit of rubber to the actuator wouldnt i ??

now how do i fit a dump valve on this enigne lol

What are you on about it fell over?

DAVED - Yes I have plans, I wanted a live axle on the front with coil springs so sold the Mav and the mighty Sam to buy the cherry. Plan to lift it a modest 3" with some 33" tyres, rubicon style front bumper, swing away rear wheel carrier and plenty of protection underneath. Will have to wait for next year for that though

Cos i'm planning a cheap trailing project first :sly

Oh and i'll be buying a snorkel of course... :p

I fitted the boost gauge to a T piece I put into the small pipe that links to the Ally pipe that has "TURBO" on it.
It won't measure vacuum, only pressure at this point though.

So my mate says, and he knows his stuff on these. Will be getting 31's for this winter tho. I've been looking at lift kits from the states as i regularly import car parts for my business. Seen a nice sky-jacker kit with all the extra bits to keep the geometry right

KBEKL - Thats a cherokee not a grand cherokee... theres a difference. They aint permenent 4x4 and have cart springs on the back. Still awesome off road tho

right well the new turbo is on and the car starts

but their is loads of blue smoke and and the rattle is back so it wasnt the turbo altho the turbo was masking the underling problem

right 1 maverick for sale cheap :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

i can here the call of the green oval :sly:sly:sly:sly

Ooooo not good! :doh

Before you jump to conclusions, is it fitted correctly, no air leaks etc
loads of blue smoke says to me oil is getting past the seals? Thats what I was told last time one of my turbos went smokey

yer its all fitted properly lol no air leaks

their is a hell of alot of smoke it covers the road when reved even when using the hand throttle

also when reved the rattle is pressent so guess the turbo either was working fine or it too was damaged and was masking the problems of the engine

just dont know what to do i need a car befor 23rd december as we are on hols then

so its either sell this as a whole and sell everything else i have got

or strip the car down and sell the parts off worht the most money but takes the longest to get shot of

Bugger, gutted for ya!

My advise now would be to get it to a workshop, perhaps a TD specialist. If they are a decent garage they should not charge you for finding out whats wrong, only the labour and parts to fix it. Once you know for sure you can then make your financial decision.

Thats the way my local garages work anyway, but then there were comments made about the integrity of my locals recently...

They do charge of course for diagnostic hook-ups... but yours shouldnt need this, its mechanical part failure. They would just be identifying the work they need to do ;)

with whats gone on the engine would have hydro locked as what was said on the other forum which means that something has given

right in this engine what is the first thing to give ?? the push rods or the cam ?

it does tick over fine so altho smokey so it appears that the oil is burning in the engine which which meant the oild is passing the seals somewhere

with the rattle that seems like something has pushed loose or broke

now i dont have the luxury or having a second car so i have to make a quick decision on what to do, i could get it towed to the nearest garage and wait for them to get back to me about what they think it is, and to be honest it would be more cost effective to just chuck a new lump in the car, over trying to diagnose and then fix a broken part to find that their is more than first thought

i am really trying to come up with the easiest way to do it and that would be new engine but i dont have the tools or the know how to replace the engine and to drop a new lump in one of these probably would cost a fair bit on a car that cost me £500 is it worth the effort

also with new engine their is the chance that it has faults of its own

i am at a point of cross roads and this isnt looking like a fun choice

Do a compression test on it. That'll tell you if the pistons and or valves are right.
There was a guy on here the other day with a rusty truck for cheap:sly

Have you got water in fuel or have you checked all leads on pump and injsctors.heater plugs

Have you got water in fuel or have you checked all leads on pump and injsctors.heater plugs

far as i know their is no water in the fuel but the little light that comes on when the fuel filter gets full of water hasnt lit and it does work

all leads are fine their is pressure in the pump plunger as well

havent checked the injectors tho and also havnt done a compression test

their is no smoke at tick over but their is once you put the revs past 700

one of the engine nocking on revving

first i have read this thread, im sorry for being so late coming in ...

first step would have been compression test. especially as suspected hydro-lock ?

ffs

A stab in the dark would be one or more bent rods from being hydro locked and the timing is now effectively very retarded.
