If he has sucked water in through the air filter and it is in the engine oil or the rad, bin the engine, Rick

Bloody hell Rick, as simple as that, no wonder my mate calls "pay and play days" --------- "play and pay days" ......

Handy info to know tho, cheers :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

Bit of Maverick learning for me here. Isnt the 2.7 a diesel? (ive no idea what engines they were offered with) if it is where does the choke fit in
Its not really a choke its just a hand throttle

It does not diesels can not have a "choke" some thought that it enriched the fuel as it is fitted to the pump but as Adz and I discovered when we had an engine on the floor it is just a hand throttle although the linkage is on the pump it only pushes against the go faster lever, Rick

yep the mav is 2.7, i used the term choke as it has the choke picture on the knob and also he manual referes to a choke, basickly if i use that hand thottle then the turbo isnt spooling but if i use the pedal it does

i will have to get it off tomorrow and see where we are at with it hopefully just the turbo knackered

right can i just take the turbo off and ruin it like a taxi does or is that not possible ?

i will add vids in a min once they have finished up loading

my turbo has always wined a little so could have been on its way out and today has just put it over the edge as it has done 2 pay n plays in a week
no oil in rad and no water in oil checked that befor when i found i had no power

i ment a fllow mav owner today who had a problem with a starter aand 1 locker so i directed him to this site also a gent with a moded patrol

With you :thumb2 I didnt know about the hand throttle bit and i couldnt see how a choke would possibly work on a diesel though with some of the mods people attempt :lol:lol:lol

its called " hydraulicking " the engine innit ?

yes and no. technically its causing a hydraulic lock. The energy has to go somewhere so if the system cant absorb it, it ususally the weakest point that gives. Con rod, piston ring, gaskets :nenau

The turbo would of sucked the water into the engine, hense there not being much in there.!
Water wading is only done with a snorkel.!
Water over your wheels will almost certainly lead to water into the filter.!
I would take a guess that the turbo is dead & i would do a fuel & diesel filter change asap.!
If water & oil comes out of the sump then your engine is about to retire.!

blimey, terrible news. if this is how easy it is to brake an engine, then im getting a snorkle. havent been off road yet, or through any deep puddles, but id hate to go and do it without this knowledge...

bad luck karl, i hope it gets sorted easily.

it just takes that one you didnt think was that deep lol

but some one did say that it could be that when i went up a steep slope that the turbo could have been starved of oil as i did use the throttle on steep inclines

Where are you located Karl? Have you posted about this on the other forum? I recon there will be someone able to offer you a little physical assistance to find out exactly what is wrong rather than guessing. Graeme perhaps... ;)

Dont worry mate, its called learning your trucks abilities... we've all done it, we just have to learn by our mistakes! You wont do it again...
Here is where I decided I needed a snorkel, I was lucky water got into my engine but by taking the spark plugs out and dragging it about a for a while it fired up again and drove itself home :lol Thats Suzukis for ya...

Well these engines take A LOT OF $HIT before dying as i had a snorkel when i put mine in upto the roof & just above the dash on the inside
She lived to see another day :D

BUT

You may not be so lucky if the turbo sucked in water :(

Do the cheap easy things 1st as i said :thumbs

Remove the air filter & bin it
Remove the pipe off the front & inspect the turbo
Change the diesel filter
Change the oil & filter

Youve covered the basicis with little expense

BUT

If you get water in with the oil when changing then it wont be looking good...

Good luck & hope to see you this weekend :nenau

With regards to fitting a snorkel

The easiest & cheapest way is to go through the outer wing & match it up to the hole already in the inner wing.
Use guttering or go to a exhaust or roll cage manufacturing type place to get e nice pipe done :thumbs

right had it apart this morning turbo seems to be fine all fins in place and spins but has a bit of play in it

but then i decided to go and start the car and it started fine first time and lots of smoke but revved freely no rattle now

on driving it allows full rev range but it is under powered and a mixture of blue and black smoke out the back i have a couple of vids and you can see the smoke but it isnt excessive like last night

checked oil seems to be fine no mayo on the dipstick or the oil cap, rad water seems to be fine no oil in that and no loss or gain of fluid in the expasion tank

what would cause the loss in power ??

engine sounds as it normally does like a taxi lol

will post the vid once processed via youtube

on the back of the ''turbo'' pipe there is a valve which will almost make my engine stall if I pull the sprung lever. Is this the egr ? I get a cloud of white smoke when I release the lever and rev the engine .
Could be yours is knackered or just stuck Karl ?

the egr is a silver pipe that goes round the back of engine

is that the actuator ????

actually as you mention that i dont get the normal noise i used to get when acclerating

would this cause all these problems ??
