the tyres are barely any bigger than a late model T2s anyway.
Oh? Depends on whether you think 2ins taller constitutes "barely any". They are 235/65 R17 on a new T2 aren't they?
Other numbers, approach, departure, ramp over.
The approach angle for the Patrol is 37deg - straight out of the brochure. The departure angle is compromised by a towbar, so the Nissan figure isn't relevant. I've no idea what the ramp over angle is - but the ground clearance half-way between front and rear wheels is about 13ins (I've measured it), which is about 4ins more than under my old Trooper (due to the bash plate under the transfer case).
The only information I've been able to find on the T2 is for the van version. It's approach angle is 32deg The passenger T2 doesn't seem to be on the Nissan UK site. . As I don't have a stock T2 to hand, I cannot measure the ground clearance half-way between the wheels. Where did you get your numbers from?
Would love to take you up on your offer but mine doesn't exactly qualify as standard I'm afraid, would romp up Roych Clough I'm sure as by your own admission it's easier than stanage.
I wasn't aware that I'd made an offer, though I did suggest that you could test the hypothesis that a stock Terrano wouldn't find Roych too easy. It wasn't my intention to get into a better/worse arguement about the Terrano and Patrol. I really don't think there's a lot of point, do you? I can understand folks on a Nissan forum slagging off Land Rovers - but to have caused a storm (in a teacup) by suggesting that I'd buy a Defender 90 if I wanted to buy a vehicle just for laning is plain silly.
As far as Stanage is concerned I would not, at the moment, take my Patrol down (or up) it. The risk of getting it wrong is too great. In any case, I just don't know the Patrol well enough yet. Roych Clough is another matter entirely. The Patrol trundled up that a couple of weeks back with no problems at all. No waffles, no road building, no spotter, no wheelspin, no stop/start - it just breezed up with not a care, on the original Bridgestone Dueler road tyres.
I have no real idea how a stock Terrano would do but my stock Trooper didn't like going down Roych too much, so I would be a tad apprehensive - maybe other T2 owners might be able to comment if they've driven it.
Cheers
Andrew
