and mate as i said dont knock it until you have tried it! simple as that!

It is a fact that Terranos have IFS, isn't it? It is a fact that stock Terranos have relatively limited ground clearance. This isn't knocking, it's a simple statement of fact.

I know that a Terrano is pretty competent offroad and I have neither said nor implied any different. I went out greenlaning with some Terranos only a few weeks back - and they did very well. One of them kindly gave me a little tug on Bamford Clough - and another was kind enough to let me assist by giving it a little tug when it got stuck on some other lane (I forget which).

I've just had a read through every post in this thread. I can see no conceivable justification for your assertion that I've been knocking the Terrano.

Have fun
Andrew

By the way I dont have a terrano.

No ....... I should learn to read. OK, I'll try again.

If the Corrieyairack Pass were still as I saw it in August, no stock 4x4 - Nissan or otherwise would have a realistic chance of driving it.

Cheers
Andrew

Is that about the right price for waffles or can you get them cheaper??

You definitely can get them for less than that.

I've a 4ft long 38mm thick pair in my garage that I've never used. Now I've got a Patrol, I think I need thicker 50mm waffles - but the 38mm ones should be ideal for a Terrano.

If you are interested, let me know ........

Cheers
Andrew

Im interested, PM me with price??

Oh I get it......its foreign money??

Nope, proper English money not that foreign decimal muck that isn't worth much at all. You'll be telling us next that you don't know what a groat is or a farthing, shilling, florin or half-crown. You used to be able to get a fish & chips for a shilling and get change. 8O

Maybe, but you could get four gallons of diesel for a quid too.

Errrrr, yes, compared to what, yes.

Yes T2/Mav have IFS, so do military hummers, many comp safari and rock crawler competition trucks so what.

My Mav (as standard) has the same ground clearance (Ford/Nissan figures) as your patrol with all the other numbers being far better, and the later 16" wheeled T2's have ½" extra clearance.

Perhaps you're not knocking them, perhaps its just ignorance or prejudice.

AndrewK - Plank meant Andrew or Andy aka Cameraman not you.

Hmmmm, Really? most people including Plank know I have had Nissan 4x4s before and many have off roaded with me long before I had a Disco.

PLANK said:
Andrew, have you ever owned or driven a T2 off road? as you seem to have a very low opinion of them, as i have been off roading in a T2 with land rovers and they were stuck just as often if not more?

Yes, is the short answer, but it suffered from the familar Jap disease - expense and nothing readily available. Fine off road, Ok on road. I would not really want another. I don't have a terribly high opinion of Terranos, never had. Patrols are better, differant league on and off road, but I would prefer the SWB off road.

funny thing Patrols used to be the ultimate off road vehicle......

I still think Patrols are an excellant vehicle and would have one now (as I did before) if it were not for price. They are simply too expensive for me to buy or run as a second vehicle, incidently I spent 6 months daily looking for a fair priced one. If I was to run only 1 vehicle from Nissan as a dual purpose vehicle then it would be a LWB Patrol with the highest spec I could afford.

since the swb has not been available here since 2002 ish it will
get harder and harder to find a good one. my next will probably
have to be a long, unless i import a brand new shorty from italy
or somewhere!

i agree with the short better off road bit tho, except in some
steep situations when the LWB's are more stable

Totally agree, maybe we could visit Aus and drive a couple back

I wanted a SWB Auto, then I said I'd settle for any SWB, but they are just too expensive, which is a shame as they are already an excellant off road vehicle as standard, take a larger tyre without lift or cutting and give little problems. I even looked at LWB because they can be given a much larger lift, up to 6" not being uncommon I believe with no adverse effect.

I hear from Nissan that they are no longer going to be selling the LWB soon 8O as its not a good seller and want to replace it with the Pathfinder.

not oz mate, they didnt get the shorty at all after 1998!!! they would
kill for some of the SWB's we have here!

it will be a sad day if nissan completely pull the plug on the patrol
in the uk, there are rumours of a total revamp along the lines of
the american titan with IFS

why cant they just leave things alone!!!!

Its a good buy it now price  but if you watch a few they go for anywhere between £20 and £30 on E bay for the 38mm.

50mm are better but fetch a high premium around £55 - £75 either on Ebay or 4x4 stockists.

38mm will be Ok for you and most people. They have quite a flex to them.

Heavier vehicles such as Patrols, competition vehicles and such would be better with 50mm. In hindsight with the recovery I do, I would have been better with 50s for harder wearing and longer lasting.

Didn't know that about Oz 8O really thought they still had them 8O

Patrol need more UK sales to keep going.

I've seen the Titan, awesome beast, bit wide for out lanes but still THE business.

Errrrr, yes, compared to what, yes.

Compared to the vehicle that, earlier in this thread, I said I'd buy as a dedicated laning motor, for example - a Defender 90.

My Mav (as standard) has the same ground clearance (Ford/Nissan figures) as your patrol with all the other numbers being far better

The 05 Patrol SVE runs 275/65 R17 tyres which are 31ins tall - so it has more clearance as standard under the diffs than a Terrano. More importantly, it has more than 12ins clearance everywhere else so doesn't get whacked underneath anything like so often (or even at all, so far). Bring a tape measure to the "beginners day" if you want to check.

I have have no idea which "other numbers" you mean, not axle articulation at the front for sure.

Perhaps you're not knocking them, perhaps its just ignorance or prejudice.

No, I just don't have the rose tinted spectacles that some *owners* seem to be issued with. A Terrano is a fine vehicle but no finer offroad than the MKIV Trooper I had - and I know the Trooper's limitations extremely well. It didn't like the steps on Roych Clough very much. I suspect that a stock Terrano wouldn't either for exactly the same reason, it has limited clearance under the middle of the vehicle. Feel free to test that hypothesis, if you wish.

If you remove the words "from Nissan" from that sentence, that is exactly the view I took when I bought my Patrol in October.

Cheers
Andrew
