Thats fair enough.
But...
The people who do use SVO 100% as in every tank every fill are in a way doing what I'm doing by putting in additives in my opinion...
I might run on svo for a couple of tanks or longer in succession to 1 tank of diesel or visor verser...
But then we're both off topic to the original question...
To which i can only say don't bother as stated above...

No it is relevant and a point that takes you further into the svo debate.

Really the debate on running on svo/wvo as an alternative fuel should be titled "heavy mineral oil based" v's "veggie oil based" Two completely different end products.

If you start talking about additives you broaden it massively.

Contrary to sometimes held popular belief most brands of diesel are different to each other. Each company specifies , often on the basis of cost , what additives are going into their product. Its not the "pure" mineral oil people seem to think.

Similarly veggie oil whilst completely a different product has "oil" characteristics which make it suitable for this type of combustion. What it can lack on protracted use is anti gumming and extended lube.

Bio diesel sort of falls in the middle

I dont understand or remember all the scientific points, I'm not a chemist, but one of the few advantages of having one of the largest petrochemical industries (and storage and distribution) in Europe on our doorstep is acces to info and more boffins per square mile than anywhere else I know :thumb2 its very interesting stuff.

So really I dont think its unfair to say 100% svo = ongoing running of the vehicle without the presence of diesel fuel and visa versa for 100% diesel.

Well after a heated debate last night, glad to see we're all :grouphug
Well,as I'm definitely no fuel expert :lol perhaps a new thread should be started :nenau

DIESEL / SVO / BIO / WVO / ADDITIVES

What do ya think

Bloody hell I only asked a little question 4 pages later:eek::eek:

2 pages was tick for tack lol

ah, what was your question again?.:lol:augie

lmhao.

i'm a wee bit afraid to put anything into my baby tbh, i still get diesal cheap crossing the border, my bro-in-law run his on bmw on 50/50 mix but one day someone on the farm moved the 200 gallon container and it shook the settle stuff around and without realises he did his mixture and damaged the whole engine, it always seems a friend of a friend, a m8 say a friend of his runs his disco on lidl veg oil he gets it off them by the crate.

1: is it legal.
2: how does it fire up the engine.

i have my old terrano i could test it on.

my other bro-in-law has a chippy and he has people to take it away so me and a m8 have retrieved 2 oil burners and going to see how we can keep it burning and what mods need if any to the jets, if it works free heating oil lol. if it works free heating oil lol.

If you're getting cheap diesel I wouldn't bother with SVO, but providing you're running clean, unused oil (which is what SVO is) you are unlikely to have any problems....you can run 50/50 with no problem or adjustment required and more in summer months. Sounds like whatever your bro was using wasn't clean oil as it shouldn't have any settlement in it (possibly waste oil?). I've been using sunflower oil and its as pure at the bottom as it is at the top....

Personally I would never use WVO (waste oil) as it has too many contaminants in it.....better to use it to make biodiesel but thats a more involved process and you need room to do it and store it.

Its perfectly legal to use up to 2500 litres a year of veg oil in the UK with no duty payable. But be aware that a lot of diesel fuel pumps don't like it...the older the diesel technology you're running the better - and ours is old LOL!:thumbs And if you have a Bosch fuel pump (ours do) even better.

tezzer

can you pass on the info to me about where you order it from and how you store the svo please.
also do you have to inform councils, fire brigades etc etc and have adequate bunding for the svo to meet health and safety (common sense people apparently).
cheers
phil
