Can always juggle dates to suit, but once start juggling, then someone drops.

Anyone any alternate to suit??

hi just pulled this of OFF ROAD ROUTES .NET
5 Description: This Route starts in Ashbourne and proceeds in roughtly a Northerly direction until it reaches Stanage Edge, then returns by a different Route. There is some lovely countryside en route and some interesting driving. The Route passes through the pretty village of Bakewell and an option is to join the Route 2 North Ashbourne Route here. The track up and over Stannage Edge is straight on. This track is graded dificult and should not be attempted by inexperienced drivers and prefereably not alone. The track is steep, and rocky on a narrow ledge hugging the hill side. The Route up here is covered in Route 43. At the time of writing repair work had taken place on the track in order to keep it open to off road vehicles. If you do drive this track choose a quiet time when there are not a lot of other users of the track. Otherwise this is a lovely walk to the top of the escarpment. Part B of the Route continues from Stannage Edge car park and winds its way South towards Ashbourne. This section of Route includes some long steep sections which can be slippy in the wet.

So it does look as though work has been done at some point

In all honesty I really dont think whatever you do will make it passable for all as everytime someone goes up or down its character changes.

Personally I think the teamwork is helping one another get up as we did with a Terrano some months ago.

As it is severe you may well find that whatever work you try and do will only be undone when various users reaarange the rocks for their own method of getting up the lane.

As far as I'm aware the lane aint under threat is it (I'm sure Andy will correct me if I'm wrong!)

p.s. nice to see all of you again albeit electronically!

No threat that I know of, and its mentioned quite regulary in various 4x4 mags and TOR, so should be safe (crossing fingers here)

So anyone else want to come, 21st July at mo, unless any further advances on that?

Go with the date as set, as i say I'm sure we can drive it again, and if we wait for a date when all the usual suspects can get together, then we'll be waiting forever.

Besides, I'll be in the Ardeche in France, and from what I hear they are pretty relaxed about laning over there, i might be finding some tracks to pootle down on that date anyway!!!

But serious moment, I've got some waffles & a tirfor, if someone wants to meet partway between now & that date in July, then I don't mind loaning this kit to Andy/Ian if it might be helpful.

Thanks for the offer Jonathan, I may well take you up on that, especially as I'm in Liverpool at the Airport twice soon with Lucy. Depends if anyone else takes up the challengeand wants to come along.

Let me know when, you know you are welcome to call in for a coffee.

Firstly, there is no "use it or loose" threat hanging over Standage Edge - it's driven regularly.

Stanage changes contstantly due to fresh rock fall, washout / erosion by rain or even the effect of vehicles that have driven it.

However, Stanage is a challenge! And as such, should remain a challenge. That's why there are no disabled routes up Everest!

(Don't think the Club would do itself any favours in the wider 4x4 world by making the run up Stanage any easier than it is currently)

I know Chris (Doodlebug) and me both run LR's and regularly drive up without incident, along with taking groups of "Stanage Virgins" up too. We've taken a SWB Terrano up last autumn - had to carefully spot him and use waffles in one or two places, but otherwise no issues!

stannage edge

hi steve ray.
the original post was missleading ,what i ment was to get some of the lads up there to drive stannage and "move rocks about"in order to make it passable for us.the bit about putting something back .In hind sight I should not have put in,because it gave an imprression other than the one intended.
AS YOU SAY the challange of stannage is in beating the difficultys of this fantastic route.
perhaps you could attend on the day and give us virgins a hand or two.

West of Sheffield, just East of Ladybower resevoir.

Hi guys you can put me down for this one, inexperienced, only done 2 days green lanning in Wales and i thought that was difficult, but will try.First day out with the club.

Bit late to the debate but personally I think the challenge with Stanage is to do it on the day and to take it as it's found. Myself, Tommo and Nellie did it but I fluffed my line through the only really tough bit and grounded out. Tommo then winched me off backwards and then Nellie guided me through (thanks again both of you). It's a step up from the normal green laning but very rewarding as a result.

A bit of planning, a spotter, a bit of rock shifting/waffle boards and it would be very rewarding.

Having said all that would like to put myself down for the 21st but at a wedding the day before and then away on the Sunday and 'divorce' springs to mind if I go out playing on the Saturday..

Have fun!!

Due to a change in personal circumstances I have now sold the Patrol, and will therefore be unable to now attend this event.

Sorry.
