I've seen better and cheaper so don't buy, the link is just to give you some idea of what you should be thinking of in terms of purchase. I prefer straps too, but again its just to give an idea.

This would be a better buy

Really? A 1ft wide strap, seems a bit unwieldy if nothing else.

Yup, at least three(second hand) were donated to the 2005 rally and all where sold.
I was out with one member when he pre attached one before fording deep water. Funnily enough they lay quite nice accross the bonnet and hook on the mirror. Surprising how much use they can be and the foresight of the members who bought them for only pennies.

1 would it be strong enough to use for recovery & 2 would it fit on a standard type of tow bar (not a swan type) I've got a feeling the answer will be no but I thought i'd ask any way

Yes they would be strong enough for recovery, depending on the securing point beneath it and the bolts holding it.

No it wouldn't fit a tow bar.

No questions are stupid if you don't know the answer and are genuinly interested.

I've just had a look at the recovery point on the back of the Patrol, which is similar to the Landie one. Although I haven't measured the bolt spacings accurately, they don't look a mile off being the same spacing as the holes in a standard 4 hole towbar flange.

It might be worth asking the question at a Nissan dealer..........

Cheers

Thats what I was thinking Andrew  if the spacing is the same then I would be laughing as my tow bar has the 4 holes you mention andrew
Cheers CM for the info

The "lifting rings" featured in the eBay ad don't seem that good.

Proper lifting rings or "JAte rings" bolt directly to the LR chasis and spread the load throug the chasis when making a recovery. The ones in the pic seem a bit "light weight"
(imho)
