Is it adjustable or do I need a remap?
Its always been a bit lazy but it seems to have dropped to about 600 rpm.
which is a bit shit at traffic lights as it shakes the car a bit:eek:
am I right in thinking it should be at about 800 rpm:nenau

adjustable on a TD but think yours is a TDi so not sure, Rick

you sure at 2001? anyhow it is done on the throttle arm on the pump, get someone to press the peddle while you watch the pump and you will see, when the peddle is off the arm rests against a bolt, simply adjust it, Rick

says td not tdi on the back of it:nenau
Ive put my number plate in on various part suppliers and its come up as a td:nenau
if fitted a glow plug relay, glow plugs, every rubber bit underneath, water pump and a lot of bits besides that were meant for a td.
my mechanic reckons its a td.
but he also says it doesn't look adjustable:nenau
if it is a tdi bonus as the abs sensor is 60 quid cheaper for the tdi:lol
oh and the power is SHIT.
egr valve, meant to block that off too, will make a note. but that's also a different job on the td and tdi:confused:

If you have an intercooler, it is a Tdi, and you will have a scoop on the bonnet, and the heat exchanger on top of the engine. The Td has neither of these.

The Td, has a throttle cable, and you can see it move on the pump, also a hand throttle, which when pulled out a few mm will give you a faster tickover, I use mine as a better control of speed on down hill decents, as it is smoother than the right foot if the surface is pot holed etc, or icy.

Some people, incorrectly call this hand throttle a choke, it is not a choke, it does not control the richness of the fuel, like in a petrol car, it only puts on a few extra revs, handy at tick over to get the engine warmer quicker, or smooth out any roughness while it is starting from cold.

As said before, the Td tick over is easy to adjust with a screw at the pump.
If you find you need to increase the tickover especially when first started from cold, but it is ok when warm, then you might have a failed glow plug.:nenau

I don't know how the tick over on a Tdi can be adjusted, it could be controlled by the ecu :nenau:nenau

Hope it helps,
best regards,
Rustic

the tdi cannot be adjusted thats for the ecu to do:thumbs

QUOTE]

You I has dropped off:lol:lol My tick over is about 700-750 not sure what could be up but as mentioned check your EGR & maybe your filters:confused:

Normal tick over on my 2001 Tdi is 800rpm.

Has it got air con ? That could be running when it shouldn't maybe if you see what I mean, causing engine drag or summut.:nenau
PS air con IS gay :lol

when aircon is on the gay part of the ecu ups the rev by 100 rpm when on idle:p

Not sure if this would cause any other issues, but could you not make a small adjustable bolt/nut setup so it pushes the go pedal down a bit?

Well just maybe the air con and the ecu have fallen out over what colour the poodle should be and forgotten to up the revs :lol

my biggest problem is both feet are now busy at traffic lights.
ones permanatly holding the clutch in to stop the bloody box from rattling and the other is busy keepin the revs up:lol

I had a brief look at blanking the egr off. that's my next to do job.

the aircon motor is still there but has never been serviced and hasn't worked.

if the egr don't fix it I like fez's screw the pedal down idea:rolleyes:

if you tweak the go faster pedal the ecu will never see "throttle closed" think this might cause problems, like still fueling on the overrun, think you are better off shorting the power steering switch this will have the effect of raising the revs, bit like you pulling a little on the S wheel a little, as this can be a normal state I don't think it will cause any other issues, air con is to complicated to mimic the compressor load, Rick.....Oh and my TDi's do not have the egr at all

Yeh my last Shogun had the EGR blanked on it and some on the Pajero Owners Forum removed theirs completely too.

I know there were also some folk who just cut their own blanking plates out of an aluminium drinks can... :augie

What Rick is saying, is it was never fitted from the factory... My 1999 TDi does not have it either...
