If you have an intercooler, it is a Tdi, and you will have a scoop on the bonnet, and the heat exchanger on top of the engine. The Td has neither of these.
The Td, has a throttle cable, and you can see it move on the pump, also a hand throttle, which when pulled out a few mm will give you a faster tickover, I use mine as a better control of speed on down hill decents, as it is smoother than the right foot if the surface is pot holed etc, or icy.
Some people, incorrectly call this hand throttle a choke, it is not a choke, it does not control the richness of the fuel, like in a petrol car, it only puts on a few extra revs, handy at tick over to get the engine warmer quicker, or smooth out any roughness while it is starting from cold.
As said before, the Td tick over is easy to adjust with a screw at the pump.
If you find you need to increase the tickover especially when first started from cold, but it is ok when warm, then you might have a failed glow plug.:nenau
I don't know how the tick over on a Tdi can be adjusted, it could be controlled by the ecu :nenau:nenau
Hope it helps,
best regards,
