I plan on having my gearbox done at the same time as my clutch and crankseal in the spring.

do I buy td or tdi parts?

Right Steve yours is a TDI for sure:thumbs you've just lost your I sticker:lol If you have an egr fitted it'll be at the back of the engine on the drivers side next to the bulkhead but as your is a 2001 model I would think it's highly likely you do have one

No tick over adjustment but you can adjust the throttle stop position on the pedal mechanism.
Will show you on Sunday mate as it's easier than tryin to explain it.
Done it on my last tdi and going to do it on this one as it shakes your false teeth out when at idle:lol

rick was saying if we mess about with the go faster pedal the ecu with never see the throttle closed position:nenau
what would be the consequenses of that?
I have to do summat though as like you say my teeth have ground down from chattering on tickover:lol

In the long run, next spring/summer the engine and box are comin out.
I want a few more jobs and mods done at the same time.
but I may have it tuned and remapped a bit too:clap

I haven't had chance do me rail till Tuesday Elton.but I have enough steel for 2 so am making 2:D I will let you have the second one if it suits your needs for the price of powder coatin a few bits for me:D
I want me rail done. Pehaps my bash plate and tow eye too.
all in bright orange to go with me angry bird sticker:lol
after that the winch bumper rock sliders and massive roof rack in the same bright orange:D

sounds like a plan.
there is a thread on here somewhere about adjusting the throttle pedal stop.its got an adjustment screw on it so don't see why you cant do it.never had any problems on my last tdi when it had been done.
not sure if there is a section in the workshop manual, sure that's what I used as reference when I did my last one.:nenaubeen a while since I did it.

Ordinarily when the vehicle is moving and you take your foot off the gas, the ECU will stop all fuel delivery to the injectors.
If the idle switch is defeated the the "consequences" will be increased fuel consumption.

Now is this a mod that can be done to a Td with a mechanical pump? ie shut off the fuel on the over-run.:augie

I guess the answer is no, as manufacturers would have done this ... Wouldn't they?:nenau:nenau:nenau

Just a thought...

I think it could possibly be done with a little ingenuity.
Over-run = (vehicle moving) + (Engine RPM > ~1000) + (Throttle closed).
I wonder, if under those conditions it would be acceptable to close the main fuel valve on the IP? and if that would effectively stop fuel delivery?

at idle if you pull on the steering wheel a little the engine speeds up, or should do, it is done via a switch in the pressure line, if this switch is closed permanently it should increase idle speed, Rick
