Haven't had much time on the truck this last week but did manage to run a 16mm2 cable through from the battery to the boot area through a rubber grommet I found in the bulkhead. :D
Also wanted to try photobucket :nenau
 
A day off yesterday and brothers workshop available so decided to make the most of it:thumb2
Made a bracket to mount an isolator and a fuse board out of stainless. Space is a bit limited but it turned out ok.
 
Then it took a turn for the worse:eek:
I decided to get it up in the air and start spraying the body mounts in preparation for the body lift and found a drip of oil on the rear diff again. I recently changed the pinion seal and thought I'd messed it up, but looking closer it was dry around that end of the diff?
After scraping more of the crustiness off and giving it a wipe down I checked the oil level and topped it up!
After half hour drive I returned and found this.....
 
Seems I have a hole in the top of the diff housing somewhere. I'd obviously uncovered it scraping off the crust.
Now, I've been searching and found reference to the different ratios on different models.


Questions...... replacing with another 3ltr auto rear axle could would be preferable. Finding one on the other hand......:confused:
Changing to an earlier axle is the other option but I'd have to match it with a front diff to.. Would I be correct?

Thoughts gentlemen please. :D
 
You might find it easier and quite possibly cheaper to find the 2.7 front and rear diffs and you'll have a lower ratio which will be nice.

Depends what driving you do also as at 70 you will be doing a higher rpm, so you might just have to fit bigger tyres to even it out :lol

Go petrol diffs for even lower ratio :sly Ready for those 35's :naughty

I'm not going bigger than the current 31s. :rolleyes:

I'm hoping to find either a cheap complete motor to rob parts off or someone who has one breaking.
 
Where is the oil coming from?

From the top of the diff Fez.
There's no leak when town driving, well there wasn't until I cleared more crust, but at 60mph up it sprays everywhere. Have not yet found the hole but it's there!
The vent is clear and the seal on the back plate is good and I've replaced the pinion seal. :nenau

wow thats crazy must be rusted through or something??

Mine's not far behind it!!!! They really let us down with these C200 diffs on the later ones

Petrol diffs are a step too far for me Banshee. I'd end up stretching my caravan and 8 metres is already enough:lol

Yes. Shite diffs. 140k and rusted through. Would have lasted longer if kept clean and painted I suppose.

Cheers Rick. Waiting on call backs from local breakers but so far no-one has the correct ratio rear axle for 3Ltr auto so will need to match it with a front diff too. Does that make sense?
 
Not a problem I have front diffs as well, had not realized the 3 has a different ratio, Rick
 
Oh bugger, do you reckon you can find the hole and plug it with some metal putty untill you find another diff?
