never ever seen an axle casing rust to the point of failure, so in my opinion no point other than bling, but a spray can every now and then would solve that, but more to the point you have now exposed your internals to contamination, that in itself is a good reason not to not strip an assembly that does not need to be stripped, Rick
Keep powder coating mate, you do it for your own reasons and alot of people enjoy seeing it. We all like to do different things, some like a long list of stuff to moan about every mot and some realise preserving a dying breed is also about being an enthusiast hence the reason for these forums... keep up the great work bud, i for one like what your doing and CAN see the point.
So here I struggled with the diff. It was tough but I won 
Loads of Plus Gas and heat to take the cone off
Tried removing droplinks but again THE MOST RIDICULOUS ALLEN KEY DESIGN made me cut them off so will need new ones :nenau
Diff lock bits
Dust shield for brakes was held on three nuts for phillips screwdriver (WTF!?) so naturally those rounded inside - drilled them out - still need to remove two bits from one hub
Some time ago I have noticed this on top of my fuel tank - also the reserve light is on at all times
So both cover and tank have been removed tonight :thumb2
Cover is going for powder as it seems solid but not sure what to do with the tank - sender/level unit...If I manage to get it off
Also not sure I will be splitting the axles as would need new bearing as well as abs rings. It requires some magic to split them without special puller from Nissan.
Anyway I am surprised by the amount of work done in the middle of the winter :thumb2

Now thats commitment in this weather i was outside yesterday and it was cold enough.... Are you going to pc the whole rear axle then? Or just stone chip/paint it ? Whilst tank is out check the fuel lines, mine have been replaced the entire length of the truck... Also there is a doubler plate on the inside of the chassis that can rust through, if you taken the tank out it would be obvious though, seen it on quite a few trucks...
Rear axle is being fully powdered. Same as I did the front. I will check the lines, but probably do those when I do the frame. Will update more photos tomorrow
