:lol:lol
I don't leave the heater on all night mate.
It goes off before i turn in for the night.

Lot of dead space to heat up, What about a 12v heating pad under the sleeping bag on a timer for going to bed. Or just stop being a pussy :lol

This :lol:thumbs

I've got a small gas heater that I'll use to warm up the tent before bed if need be (usually dictated by female company) but usually I just really on a decent sleeping bag and not being a wet :p

Oil Leak

My oil leak has been getting worse and worse and I'm sick of having to park on a sheet on the drive every night so I had mess yesterday as I was armed with parts and it had cooled off a lot since Saturdays Scorcher :surrender

The leak is coming from the pipe that attaches to the back of the oil pump underneath the injector pump and round to the block, this appears to be another cost saving exercise by Nissan (Dacia) after 02 replacing a solid line with a half metal half rubber :doh

After removing the steering box and pump, you can see the utter mess this has left behind!!!

Last time I did the job I removed the Injector Pump but I really really couldn't be bothered with doing that this time around so I decided to try and tactfully get the pipe off the block by sliding my hand down the back of the IP and slowly tickling the 14mm bolt out, not a nice job and certainly took way longer than it should have but at least I know I'm not going to have any running issues now as result.

The solid pipe is a spare that Elty has sent me from anolder model :thumb2 The half and half is the crap that's split!!!!

All back together now and will be trialing it tonight as it got too dark and late last night so I played it safe and took the Fiesta to work this morn, will be doing a de-gunk tonight and trial run

Here's the new pipe in situe, what a nightmare of a location!!!

Should do, but just to correct you Zac that is the vac pump, but sure you knew that anyway, Rick

Terrance is down

Terrance is off the road again guys, he's blown his gearbox!!!!!

182,565 on the original box with frequent fluid changes, heavy off road use, heavy on road use and lots and lots of towing, i'd say that's a fair life expectancy.

Problems started to develop a few months ago when 3rd and 5th started to become audibly louder under load and you could also feel a harshness/feedback through the gear lever.

I then started to get what I would have diagnosed as "hydraulic" issues with 2nd not accessible from 1st or 3rd without grinding the box really bad, I developed a technique where I could match road speed with engine speed and just about get it in without a graunch sometimes.

I stupidly decided that it would be a good idea yesterday to make a 200 mile round trip with the twin axled trailer to Newport to fetch a 2nd hand box with 56,000 miles on, we luckily made it there and back just about but 3/4 of the way home, the heat from the box was making it into the cabin and I thought I was due a fire!!!!

Pulled into the street outside the house, pushed the trailer onto the driveway with a neighbor and then jumped in the truck to put that on the drive behind it.

DEAD!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't get into any gear at all other than reverse which was AWFUL, going backwards in a straight line gave the same results as if I was in 4L on full lock with the LOKKA engaged.

I finally managed to force it into gear and limped it up the kerb and onto the driveway, decided although it was getting dark at this point that I'd get the truck on a sheet and some metal sheets underneath and got it up on axle stands. I removed the rear prop and shut shop.

Plenty of graft and pictures to come again, I just hope my 3.0 Borg & Beck I fitted a few Xmas' ago is still fighting fit :bow

Wish me luck :D

Terrance has done well :thumbs I've witnessed some right ropey clutch control :lol

I bet he'd love you even longer time if you convert him to auto :hide:

The cheek!!!!!! I've seen you fall off a mountain bike but I don't go spreading it around the forum!!!!!

I'll be updating my project thread with a write up soon when the truck will hopefully be back on the road. Everything seems to be an uphill struggle again at the moment and I've just got a lot on at home and at work too.

I'm not allowed to take any time off work at the moment because I'm electrical lead for a new model of car going down the track the next coming weeks :(

Due to the box going bang I feel a little silly too as I've had to let a member down on a truck I was meant to collect from him for breaking :(

Gearbox Update

Right, I've made some progress with the truck even though I'm behind schedule :( Here's where I'm at so far;

Last time around when the gearbox had to come out due to the clutch failing, I brought a Gearbox cradle or "chocolate cradle" if you listen to Rick :augie It will only attach securely to the 2 tonne Halfords Advanced trolley jack that I have which was sinking last time around but I managed to get it working again by topping up the Hydraulic Oil and bleeding.

This time around I wasn't so lucky, I have a 3 tonne jack that does all the work now and it's rare that I need to use the 2 tonne these days. It wouldn't have it and regardless of topping up the fluid. I tried my luck with Halfords and being an Advanced range tried the old "life time warranty" line. After a bit of deliberation and chat, I managed to wangle a new 2 tonne jack, not Advanced though but I wasn't going to moan;

Still sinking

Here's my new box and a pile of goodies to go with including, green breathers that I'll be running up the snorkel, a TRW slave cylinder, decided against a Blueprint one because upon visual inspection, they both looked the exact same quality and more 80w-90 GL4 than I need, decided to go back to 80-90 rather than 75-90 and see if I get the issue at cold with 1st gear selection.

DSC-0058-1024x578.jpg

To get the box out, it was a simple case of removing both prop shafts, torsion bars were wound down and strain taken off the lower arms and the trunions were unbolted and crossmember unbolted.

Remove the starter motor, undo all of the bell housing bolts, disconnect all of the electrical gubbins and crankshaft sensor and I was ready to wrestle it off the back of the engine.

et voila............... one broken gearbox

I need to re-use my old transfer box, the box that's come off has 183k on it and the box going in was roughly 60k I've been told :thumb2

DSC-0062-1024x578.jpg

Excuse the mess I made all over the garage floor, I don' really care about it as my garage is being re-screeded soon due to new build issues but that's another thread!!!

Got the transfer box and gearbox apart finally after I'd stopped being a wimp and put some muscle into it

This is what I found inside!!!!!

IMG-20190721-154014371-1024x768.jpg

That was all sitting down in the gunky bottoms of the gearbox here

And a final one of my transfer box that I'll be re-using
IMG-20190721-154713385-1024x768.jpg

I'll hopefully be re-constructing tonight and spraying, doubt I'll get it anywhere near the truck but hopefully not too far away from that now
