Great work pal. I robbed the same towbar off my brothers truck and it's getting a paint up too atm. :D

An unsatisfying weekend in all honesty, other than rallying round fetching parts and spraying parts and cleaning bits up.

Grabbed the windscreen pillar trim bits from James, they were better than I could have expected, mine were pretty awful. The screws were hardly identifiable. Knowing what is underneath them now, next time around I'll just give them a good yank rather than trying to mess around welding nuts onto screw heads :doh

New shiny bits

With the rear bumper lights close to going in after their final coat tonight, I decided I'd treat the truck to new bulbs all round

Grabbed a set of 239 5W 200 Lumen bulbs for the rear number plate and now I'm worried I'm going to be melting the tarmac behind me :lol

Did a little bit more last night, not allowed to do anything tonight, something about Valentines Day :nenau :doh

I decided it was finally time to do the high sidelight mod, whilst I was inside the light clusters I fished out the wiring for the Orange LED's that were fitted into them by a previous owner I suspect when it was used by the Tree Surgeon company :nenau I wired that up too and I'm quite pleased with the result :thumb2

I deliberately left the passengers side alone so you can see a before and after in one pic

And here's a vid so you can see the indicator in action too

Roof lining and other interior bits went back in today, doesn't look very good with the camera flash and looks better in the flesh

Some more light spraying

Those little indicators are interesting aren’t they.

How do you prep the light surrounds and what sortof paint do you use?

Get in there Zac:thumb2
I've been looking at small flush mount indicators that i could fit into the high level light units so i can have all the rear lights in that one unit.
Also thought about fabricating a pod to fit into the existing hole with stop/tail/ indicators and reflector all in one place.

Few more pics for progress and a nice video of my new CB aerial that lights up in the dark when you key up

Towbar antics

Yuk!!!! All rewired

Then some messing around with lights and pictures of it randomly at the side of the road purely because it's surreal to see it off the drive :lol

About time I got one of these :naughty :naughty

Didn't think I'd end up with a brand spankers though, can't wait to see what it can do and get it fitted, just the long wait until Winter again to really test it out

I've been thinking about my Kenlowe and looking around the web at other peoples installations gathering as much info as I can before I get it fitted for Winter 2019 :naughty

It's made me think somewhat as to how and where I can use it. I'm pretty much set on how I'll have it set up at home but then it got me thinking :naughty

The Engine Heater not only has an element but also has it's own internal pump that pumps the heated coolant around the block and also the heater matrix.

If you keep up with my thread, you'll realise that I've now modded a 3rd seat into the rear to use as a bed during the colder months when out off roading rather than using the tent, so...............

I think the HotStart needs 13 amps to run, my question is, will I be able to use it on an electric hookup at a camp site without getting told off or blowing anything up or tripping anything?

My idea was to leave the truck plugged in a few hours before bed and leave the heater running to warm the cab on a leisure battery? As long as I can control it from inside the truck I should be able to switch it on during the night too and use it as a space heater :naughty

Talk me out if it?

I think campsite electric hookups vary from site to site mate.

What about one of those cheap chinese diesel powered heaters to heat cab area?

Been watching threads on here about those recently and seen some reviews and even a cheapo chinese one in the flesh and they are awful, they sound like a Boeing 747 ready for takeoff. I wouldn't be able to sleep with one of those going all night long :doh

Most hookups I have found have a limit of around 1Kw or 3 to 4 amps, Rick

Ah that's going to be a no then :( That would have been awesome :doh

Lot of dead space to heat up, What about a 12v heating pad under the sleeping bag on a timer for going to bed. Or just stop being a pussy :lol

Electric hook-ups depend on the site you are staying on. On busy sites, they often only have 6amp (that's the lowest I have ever seen) as they are sharing it between so many units, but 10amps is fairly common on the smaller sites. 13 to 16 amps is sometimes available on the small 5 van sites, but again, because of the price of electricity, many of them now limit it to 10amp, to keep spending under control. For some reason, campers do not seem to care about other peoples electric bill, and you have 5 caravans, all drawing their 16amps all night, thats £120 electric bill, and they often only charge £6-10 per night for it.

We were on a site a few years ago, that opened at Easter, and they gave everyone the full 16amp. This had not been a problem for many years, but this particular Easter, we had had a beautiful spell of hot weather up to the weekend, getting loads of people to go away, then on the Saturday night, the temp just dropped away, and fell to below freezing. Everyone went back to their units, and turned on the heating, which resulted in a fantastic fireworks display from the electricity boards pole mounted transformer in the corner of the field. There was no electricity for several days, and some electrician got into a lot of trouble for signing off the site. Now we only have 6amps per pitch, and not all pitches have hookup. Now the problem is, people blow the trips so often, that they go weak, and often trip at only 4 amps.

A lot of sites will not allow Tents to have hook up for the safety concerns, and cars tend to come under tents when camping, if they allow them at all, so you will be put in the corner for tents, well away from the electric hook up.

On a practical level, the car's fan tends to be power hungry, often around 10amps, so you would need to include a battery charger in your car as well, as the engine heater. The battery charger would need to be one that can output about 10amps, to be able to keep the battery topped up, so you then need to add another amp or so, to your 13amps the 3Kw engine heater draws. Lastly, my engine heater only lifts the engine temp to luke warm after an hour of running, but does not heat the car in any way. When you turn the ignition on, you see the temp needle just lift off the stop, but it does not even get onto the marks of the dial, and definitely would not keep you warm all night.
