Plastic has a memory so put them somewhere warm too.
May help:nenau

I did think about that but I leave before the misses for work, could have done with her leaving first so that I could go and leave them in the kitchen ready for when I get home from work :doh

1 step forwards 10 steps backwards as per usual.

I was making good progress and then had a big set back :doh My windscreen has been leaking in from the top of the windscreen above the drivers seat and the passengers seat. I removed the top weatherstrip and tried to reseal the screen by pumping as much tigerseal in there as I could and then leaving it to cure for a few days.

All seemed well and when I tested it with the hosepipe it stood up to the test so I was a happy bunny!!!! Until........

I came outside a few mornings later and noticed that directly below where i'd carried out the repair , I now had a 6 inch crack down the window :banghead

I was so so annoyed but in a way glad that it happened because it meant I now have the opportunity to deal with the leak properly rather than a tigerseal cowboy fix.

So here we go, firstly removed the scuttle panel and then the 2 trim pieces that go down the sides, these were very hard to get off on account of the fact that the screws were rusted and rounded off :doh

Out in a fashion!!!! I was able to cut through the 2 side and across the top with my cheese cutter but there just wasn't enough room for me to do the bottom so once I had 3 sides free I pushed the screen out and then dealt with the bottom separate

Look at the state of it :( :( :( :(

Will tidy all the frame up and bits off roof that have been affected tonight before this bad boy goes back in, luckily it doesn't seem that I need to do any welding, I won't hold my breath though

I know it seems like you are going backwards sometimes mate but stick at it:thumb2
Get that rust sorted properly while you have the chance.

Your 'let's get it sorted' attitude will get you through pal. :bow

If you're as thorough with the top side as you have been with the bottom side, it'll be grand:thumbs

Keep your head up mate!
You have some strugles now but the more you will enjoy your car when everything is done.

Zac,
That's a mammoth job, but well done. Now you can see exactly what you are dealing with, and treat and repair as necessary......:thumb2

Probably the only job I was happy to let Mr Windshield sort :lol
Good luck with the re fit :thumbs

Bit more progress today with the truck, I pulled it off the driveway and binned the sheet that has been protecting the drive and put a new one down as it was in an awful state.

The frame around the window just needs to be treated with etch primer and sprayed Starburst Silver by can and then I'll have the windscreen man come around and show me how to fit the windscreen for next time :thumb2

I then made a start on finishing prepping the rear of the truck with a top up of Waxoyl in the high dirt areas and inside the chassis before trial fitting the rear bumper, tow bar has come off to be resprayed too and electrics rewired.

It's also become apparent that due to the body lift I'm going to need to bend the tailpipe upwards, I'd quite like to "JDM scene" it and go for quite an acute bend so it looks kinda cool

Also replaced the very very worn out drivers door hinge a while ago and forgot to post pictures, the play was unreal!!!

Never ending mate :doh

Glad you are sticking at it as it will be a beast when finished.

What a difference just putting the rear bumper back on makes to the look

Windscreen Frame Prep

My windscreen frame is all cleaned up now but down to bare metal and I've been wondering what the windscreen man will prefer to bond to? I was just going to etch primer, starburst silver then clear lacquer.

Or should I be using something else?

You're doing well pal :clap
With such a big body lift though, there's more at the front for the bumper to cover. Have you fitted it to see what it looks like?

From the factory it would have had the silver base coat and a 2 K lacquer on the frame before the screen went in so painting it wont effect the fitting:thumb2
Bumpers look nice mate;):lol

Sorry Zac the chrome tail pipe end just does not cut it mate, you need the real thing, as for the rest loving it, Rick

The bumpers do look nice  :thumbs

It's not an add on Rick, that's just how it came, it's a full stainless PowerFlow setup from turbo to back

You're doing well pal :clap

It does leave more of the crossmember visible but nothing that makes it look silly :clap

So!!!! I had yesterday off work as I'd been trying to gauge the weather and got it perfect, I was able to tidy up the frame some more and get it sprayed with enough time for it to dry before the window guys turned up.

After seeing what could go wrong and pricing up one of the electric bonding guns etc, I decided to give in and pay the £50 for someone that knows what they are doing to tackle it

The guys at Glass Act Windscreens are based in Bromsgrove and are top lads!!! They took pity on me in the glass stockists as the guys behind the counter were being less than helpful due to me not being registered and or being in the trade

I'm really happy with the job and will be popping across to the Shropshire Hills when I finish work shortly to drop in on James and grab 2 new pillar screen trims as my screws were very badly corroded and as a result I damaged the ones that came out.

With that job dealt with, I decided to turn my attention to the towbar that I removed the other night as it's starting to look super scabby and needs a new towbar electric plate and plug

DSC-1363-1280x722.jpg

Here's the primer stage

DSC-1376-1280x722.jpg

Can't really see what's going on here but that's the bar, tow hitch and my mountain bike carrier with their first coat

DSC-1377-1280x722.jpg

Another job worth noting is the replacement of the fuel tank filler neck hose between the neck and the tank, new 42mm I/D rubber hose cut to size with new jubilee clips, only needs swapping after a 3" body lift for reference :thumb2

:lol I know what you mean mate :thumbs

Yeah it's come close to me just loosing the handbrake off, pushing it off the drive and just setting fire to it at one point to be honest, glad I've stuck in and getting it sorted out.

Then I can tackle the welding and the engine rebuild on the Patrol
