Scrap Yard Score

Grabbed all this today after being allowed access all areas on a Terrano I saw being pulled into a scrap yard, bonus was it was a Bosch :naughty

Grabbed all this and did one before he realised that I'd had his pants down, put it this way, you couldn't even buy the Euro Car Parts CPS Sensor for what I paid for all of this :naughty :sly

Maintenance

  • Oil drained and refilled with 7.2l of 10w40 Mineral with an UFI Filter @ 150,000 miles
  • New Crankshaft Position Sensor fitted - Fitted the one that I picked up locally and it's made the world of difference and (I think) has resolved my EML 21 Code and Engine light but will report back tomorrow after a good run to work
  • Replaced Air Filter
  • Replaced Thermostat for an 86 degree and Thermostat Housing from a Plastic one to an Alloy one

Good work, still can't understand why they changed to plastic stat housings. Surely they can't of saved much money.

Fingers crossed for the engine codes mate.

Nope hasn't resolved it :(

Was all looking promising, it always seems to illuminate as soon as the temp gauge reaches the normal level when motorway driving :nenau, doesn't matter if using Diesel or Veg, weirdly enough seems to come on less when running pure veg

Did the paperclip trick before I jumped out of the car to walk into work and same code 21, cleared it and will try again later :bow

Also code 21 is needle lift sensor on injector 1

I've tested it though and it came back OK :nenau
Could do with another one to put in mine and test it, seems next sensible option and I can 100% guarantee that there is no air in fuel and the Crankshaft Position Sensor has now been replaced.

What does the paperclip in while driving do?

It keeps scanning that's what I did as had several codes I wiped them and went for a drive with it still scanning mine was code 34 which is needle injector but so is code 21

21 is also timing solenoid on the IP, if the No1 injector doesn't cure it then I'm going to go down the route of checking the IP and checking the pressure regulating valve on it

Wondering on whether I've finally ruined an IP :nenau

Just a stab in the dark but did it run like this before you plumbed in the heat exchanger?
Don't see how it could affect it but its just with you saying it doesn't happen until engine is up to temp.
When my ip was on the way out the fault was constant regardles of engine temperature.

Front Anti Roll Bar

Painted the front anti roll bar as I had it off the car, was replacing all of the bushes as I'd developed a squeak

Leak Off Pipes

Having still not decided on what the best piping to replace the normal rubber leak off pipes with I have just replaced all of the pipes with some more rubber ones for now.

Front No1 Injector to IP is best achieved by removing the battery and the coolant header tank and getting in with long nose pliers, I used Mikalor 8mm Hose Spring Clips, 25cm of pipe between IP and No1 Injector, 15cm between each of the other injectors. Easier to slip the Springs Clips on by cracking the 17mm injector nuts off

Really brittle and broke as soon as I tocuhed them

You can see the leak off here running down to the IP from the wheel arch , the body lift was little help for this one. You can also see the stop solenoid for the IP which I may also replace soon if my 21 code doesn't go away.

Need to do a bit more research on what all the numbers mean on the side of the IP and see if the solenoids are cross compatible, also need to see if I can do it with the IP in situe

Spare IP

Steering Wheel Replacement

My Steering Wheel was looking a bit worse for ware and I've now swapped it for a new one I've brought. The top of mine was wrapped up with insulation tape and the air bag had a crack in from when I punched the steering wheel in anger one day :doh :lol

Good job looks loads better that wheel. Got to say I'd think twice about touching anything near an air bag.

If it's any use the numbers that I could see on the stop solenoid are not nissan part numbers, probably a manufacturer number or something.

Bravo bloke.

:thumb2

Looks a lot better than the old one, does this mean you successfully separated the bits of the replacement steering wheel? You ought to write up how the steering wheel comes apart so that we all know how to separate the bits.

:thumbs

You can't be scared of it mate as long as you take the precautions and use a bit of common sense you should be fine, I whipped the battery off an hour before I even touched it to make sure it was discharged :thumb2

It's interesting as my spare says '98 which was the year of vehicle it came from and as such the one on my car is stamped '04, I'm going to do a bit more research before touching that solenoid

It does matey :lol

I sat with a cup of tea and worked it out when I thought about it, hats off to Nissan, I really like the retaining bar mechanism that holds the air bag to the wheel :thumb2

I took a picture of the airbag sticker as well before refitting so I can ensure that it's not a recall one, I'll call up and give them the serial over the phone, hopefully wont have to go in then, saves them a job too

I would like to fit that mk4 steering wheel to my mk3 Terrano... I don't know if it fits or not? :nenau
