Truck is getting ever closer to hitting the roads again very soon :thumb2
Here's some updates for you when I've remembered to take pictures, I've been doing so many jobs to get the truck tip top again that I forget to snap pics sometimes.
So firstly, I've stripped pretty much all of the interior in the truck and have been making efforts to sort out all my wiring and "temporary" solutions that become permanent bodges.
The rear door hinge has had a real bad graunching noise and hasn't felt very smooth when trying to open and close it, looks like the wet, mud and salt had just got to it and had wrecked it, it was really badly corroded, I didn't even bother to touch it and used a spare and prepped, painted and fitted, once on I greased it and now it's almost silent
The window recesses haven't really got a nice finish to them in the rear and although I've re-done them in black they still look nasty.
So I decided I was going to get some more Ordinance Survey maps but this time get them laminated so that they were encapsulated and thus immune to condensation on those cold cold mornings. I made some templates and then cut some nice sections out of the selection of maps I'd acquired and popped them into a stationary shop that I use that do oversized laminating.
Here they are in position, the jagged edges don't matter as when the trim is refitted it will then offer nice smooth contours on the eye :thumb2
I've dyed another roof lining after the other one that I had removed became a backstop for dirt grime and grinding shrapnel at the workbench against the garage wall and now that could never go back in a car :doh
Here's a minter that I managed to pick up from Coventry a few weeks ago that will be going back in shortly.
I've also made a start on plastic dipping the interior plastics with the stuff I've purchased online recently, although the finish is fantastic and it appears to be very very tough and doesn't flake like spraypaint. Only problem is that I seem to have purchased a gloss finish and it makes the plastics shine really bright under lights and look really cheap and tacky :doh
I need to get back in touch with the seller and see if I can return the unused cans and replace for some with a Matte finish.
Onto the subject of wiring.........
I have now installed a new CB that I picked up for just under £30 from my local Maplins a good few months back now from when they were closing down the branch. I've also attached my burner to it and installed it in the passengers side footwell on the centre console on the bracket provided and mounted the mic clip on the top of the centre cubby hole box.
Some of you may have seen my other thread in regards to the new beast of an aerial that I have brought new too. It's a Sirio Performer 5000 PL LED with a direct roof mount kit, no mag mount rubbish anymore to keep flying off the truck when in confined lanes with low branches, it also has an easy release arm that allows you to fold it down horizontally if it does get a bit too hairy.
The best feature, which is a bit of a gimmick really is the fact that the green base lights up green with an LED when you key up and talk, it's also a whopping 2m in length :thumbs
If you squint or zoom you can just about make the length out there
Another nice little job that I have got around to is figuring out why my alarm horn hasn't been sounding when the alarm was triggered. As the trim is out it's been a breeze to trace the wiring back from the horn which lead me to a relay in the drivers side footwell which was well broken!!!!!!
Swapped the relay with one I had removed from my recent breaker and wahey, alarm horn is working again
Best till last, I'm especially excited about this mod and have to take my hat off and thank Elty for sending me the link to this one as he has the same one. :bow :bow
After my engine overrun experience I wanted to swap the rubbish blow by control valve for an oil catch can and reroute pipes so that oil can never be fed back into the turbo again for that to happen again. So here it is....
I re-used the original bracket that slots onto the intercooler leg mounting point :thumb2
