So for the past few days I've been fitting my LWB roof bars and drilling holes into the roof for conduits for wiring, looks way better now, spotlights are now right over the front windows instead of back just behind the doors so I'll get more light on whats up front rather than lighting up the roof. Just need to get them all wired up now. With the extra roof space I'm looking for a nice roof box :naughty

Also fabricated a battery tray as my new battery didn't have the lip on it to secure it in place like my old one using the standard setup

It's painted black and fitted now :thumb2

What you using the battery for?

Second one?

Replacing my primary battery as mine is knackered, not sure I'm happy with the tray at the moment, apart from the clamps at the front holding the tray in place there's nothing to stop it jumping up and down at the moment so I've used a ratchet strap around the top at the moment, can anyone else think of a better idea that won't look as messy ?

Thas bin busy lad :lol roof rails look very tidy :thumb2 H

ow about making a saddle for the batt, a length of threaded bar at front and back fastened to old tray and a piece of flat bar accross the top :nenau

Do me a sketch mate or have you got any pictures?

That tray mate is far too thin if you do not mind me saying, no point in fixing anything to it, needs to be 2mm thick minimum, if you want me to fab one up just give me the dimensions, Rick

Check out lazy ferrets jiggly thread, he's got the sort of thing I mean on his new batt.

#1 drill n tap into inner wing, or existing batt tray

I did think that Rick to be honest, I'll see if I can get some thicker sheet steel from the motor factors after work, I'm worried that I wont be able to form it into shape being thicker and I can't cut and weld as I can't weld and don't have a welder :lol

Thanks for the drawings Doug, that looks good I'll see if I can incorporate that into the Mk2 :thumb2

I was going to build my own, but when I thought about getting the bits, and then trying to fabricate it, I went for the tray as it has all that built in as well....

The best bit, with all the adjustable fixing holes in the base, I used 2 of the existing captive nuts in the wing, and only had to drill and put a Rivnut in one location, but that could just as easily been a nut and bolt. I did use a couple of large table packing washers to lift it clear of the wing, as there is an earth wire and a rubber grommet on the near side but that should not be a problem on the drivers side.

The only extra thing you will need is some large table washers to spread the bolt head load over the slots.

That looks the job :thumb2

I'll get one of those ordered pay day, mines doing the job for the time being

On Jiggly, at some point in it's former life, someone has replaced the battery with one without the lip, and has made a new clamp, which is a thick bit of Stainless Steel sheet (2mm ish) bent into a dog leg shape.

The bottom "L" bit has a slotted hole and is fixed where the old mount was. To spread the load they have used the old lip mount on top, so the S/S bracket is held between the battery tray and the lip mount bracket using the orriganal bolt into the existing threaded hole. The second opposite "L" bend goes over the top of the battery.

You can sort of see it here...

Pic doesn't work mate but yeah that's the problem I have now, new battery doesn't have a lip but just couldn't be turned down at the price I got it :naughty

Rear Window Security Guard

I've stripped it back to bare metal with an orbital sander, did take a while but was quite fulfilling

Complete with DIY garden spray booth, I even wet the grass :lol :lol

That was 1st layer of black over 2 layers of etch primer, Ive put another layer of black on since this

Was getting late last night when I was trying to fit it and only managed to get half way through, I'm convinced that this is OEM because it even has recess for the heated window element power connectors either side, additionally it also utilises 5 points on the rear door where there are already mounting points for screws and bolts, the rest I'm going to pop rivet, but I need to go and fetch some.

Will finish and take some more pics of it while still light

Having seen this up close that is a great looking job you have done there. That is why I like going into scrap yards and pulling parts off myself, you can go in for one thing and come out with something completely different.

Pleased it went to a good home and way better than letting it end up in the crusher. Doubt I will ever come across another though.

Jealous of your tight netting !!! must have a go at reducing the cup size of mine :lol
