If I lock the front diff then it will only come into play when I engage 4 wheel which will be much the same as a Lokka so saving much pennys, Rick

The front diff is non-locking.
Are you welding it, is that what you mean by 'locking' yours Rick?

Like Pete says they do make a lokka for the GQ/Y60 the search engine is just a bit naff and doesn't like some years, change the model year to 1990 (like mine) and it works fine. Diffs are the same type throughout the life of the Y60s, just the ratios that change.

Downside of welding your front diff up Rick vs fitting a lokka is it won't unlock for turning the way a lokka does if you back off the loud pedal. Having tried turning a corner in the Y61 in 4wd (post lokka fitting) with my foot to the floor I wouldn't advise it, LWB Trol is big enough for turning as it is without making it worse :nenau

Just a thought Rick, I believe that the Terrano LSD centre will fit into a Trol front axle...

Thanks for the replies, yes am thinking of welding it up but keeping the auto hubs, that way I get a locking rear axle and if I really need 4 wheel then it will be only when the lever is in 4 wheel and I need the drive, unlikely to need to turn just get out of the mire, once out return to 2 wheel and the autos will stop driving the front diff, but I do like the idea of the T2 Lokka fitting the Patrol, trouble is it is a lot of work dismantling both to find out, plus I want to sell the old off roader complete with trailer and removing the Lokka will detract from the sales pitch, Rick

Rick the Lokka from the T2 won't fit, its the rear LSD centre that you can drop into the Trol front diff.

Personally I think welding the front diff on your Trol is a daft idea. You won't be able to use the rear locker in 2wd so you will be creating a situation where your only option if you want 4wd is to have one fully locked axle or two fully locked axles, at least with a lokka it unlocks for turning corners in 4wd :nenau

I will see how it performs on the 22nd and go from there, incidentally Rob I can lock the rear diff without going into 4 wheel, and I still have a petrol with a rear diff so guess that may fit, Rick

Done a bit more today on the winch bumper, gave it a coat of zinc paint and made the winch tray ready to be stitched on tomorrow

Got to make up a frame both sides of the winch to fill the gap tween bumper and body, it will be clad in shiny S/S sheet, Rick

Looking good Rick. Can't wait to see it hanging on the front:thumb2

That's some serious steel work.
I have started to build myself a full winch bumper at work.
I'm going to utilize the the existing 6mm tray I have and build the rest from 3mm.
I'm going all posh with it and trying to retain an OEM look with curved corners and contour lines.
Not as simple as I first thought but will be a good challenge.

OEM+ :thumbs

I wonder if I could buy a front lokka for a y60 and fit it into my rear Terrano diff :sly

You'd need the diff carrier as well but I suppose in theory it should work mate :nenau It works on the Y61s as well so same should apply there too.

Winch tray welded and front framework, need to get it on the motor for the rear
