Mounting something flat bottomed on an un-even dash was going to be a little more tricky.

I had a flash of inspiration from a roll of PTFE tape... I thought to myself, if I can mount it on that, the I can also pan the Dash Pod left and right, maybe? :nenau

This progressed into a much easier solution of taking apart an old Ikea Lazy Susan I had lying around! :naughty

The bracket will be mounted centre dash.

And it's a really nice low profile when the pod itself sits on it! :clap

That's perfect. Well done. I can see several of these appearing:naughty

If you can send me the product item on Ikeas website I can get hundreds of those for free, my Grandad puts all the displays up at the J9 M6 Ikea in Wednesbury :thumb2

I'm thinking about using this lazy Susan bearing instead...

It means I'll be able to put the HDMI and power cable thru the middle keeping them completely hidden.

That's my intention.

Problem is, that one is still a little bit too big. :doh

The smallest one I can find with a hole in the middle big enough to use is 71mm.... I need it to be about 65mm! :doh

I've ordered the 71mm bearing... I'll do my best to make it fit! :augie

I did think about fitting one in the back end of the box, but because I've decided to put it on a swivel I think it will go in the normal place up by the rear view mirror.

I just worry some thieving toerag will smash and grab a dash cam from the screen to fund their next hit :jerkit:
But I suppose that could happen wherever it is:nenau

A quick side step from my current project to one I probably should of sorted ages ago!

I've recently been complaining about my lights. They need to be upgraded... Or downgraded depending on how you look at it.

My Patrol currently has HID's.... But they have been very poorly installed!

Here's a quick Low/High Beam comparison. (For reference the trees are approx 40m away.)

LOW

HIGH

Once on high beam it appears to light a little further up the trees, but I can assure you this does not translate to any distance on an open road.

I'm going to get rid of the HID's and I'm going to put in some good old fashioned Night Breakers.

My worry is that the HID's have scorched the reflector inside the light and I think that this may also effect the Halogen bulbs.

I've been looking into new headlights for RHD vehicles, but the phrase "Hen's Teeth" springs too mind! :doh

Replaced the HID's today with Halogens.

I'd say it was a success! :clap

LOW

HIGH

Took her out on the roads too, and I'm pleased to say that the light is now thrown down the road properly with the high beams on!

You can also see in the low beam pictures that there's more of a cut off line along the fence. This should keep oncoming drivers happy! :thumb2

Theres's still a few little discrepancies due to the scorched reflectors, but not as bad as I thought they were going to be.

Wow thats a big difference ain't it eh :thumb2

Jay, I remember reading an article in a mag called classic motorcycle mechanics a few years back about a guy/company that sold kits for re plating chromed parts, it wasn't chrome they used though but it was a good finish, looked good and lasted well. I'll try and find some info for you, if you can seperate the reflectors it might be worth doing, I know they are plastic but I don't think thats a problem, as far as I can remember it's a cold process using milder chemicals tyan what is required for proper chrome.
