Chaz's guide is what I'm following too! :clap

I'll have to read it over again as I don't remember the VNT part. :thumb2

Are you having a chip or remap? When the egr is blanked there is the potential for running a bit hotter as the exhaust gas put into the mix cools things down a little, I don't know if there's a mechanical way round it or if the egr needs deleting from the ecu or whatever :nenau

Part of the Dawes set-up is to over-ride the ECU.
EGT gauge and boost gauge will work together in perfect harmony Jay.
Have you got the EGT probe job done?!:thumbs

WOW!

WOW!

WOW!

It's like day and night!

Got the Dawes/Needle Valve fettled yesterday and the drive is awesome!

It's amazing to be driving along at cruising speed and the boost not drop away for no reason! :clap

I have the probe. I plan on getting the Dump Pipe off on Monday if all goes to plan!

Another little job off the list...

This is the oil pipe coming from the bottom of the Provent Catch Can... I did want to plumb it in to an oil return, but this will do for now. (At least it will be easy to bleed off from the wheel arch!)

Nice location!!!!

My pipe from the catch can exits about there too.
When you see what you catch, you might think again about a return.

What psi have you set the Dawes limit at Jay?
What psi are you reading at 60mph cruising?

I'm set at 17.5 before limp and sitting at 12/13psi while at 60mph

You don't have to take the dump pipe off to get a tapping on the bend only if your welding a boss.
You'll really struggle to get the top heat shield off too. With the AirCon pipes in the way, it's just about impossible!

I can take you through how to do it if you'd like.
Just let me know.

Here ya go...
This is my tapping into the dump pipe bend immediately after the turbo.
The compression fitting holding the probe in place and the tapping itself are the ones supplied with your EGT gauge.
The first hole of course is the one through the heat shield about 40mm dia.

Thanks for the picture! Thats a great help! (If I can get away without taking the pipe off, I'll be laughing!)

I've started off with the conservative settings set out in Chaz's guide. At 60mph I'm at 10 psi... I'm gonna give it a little more because set there it doesn't boost over 15 psi

Had another fiddle on the drive home...

At one point went a little too far and reached limp mode when I booted it.

Got it now set at 12/13 psi at 60mph and it max's out at 16 psi.

It feels sooooo much better than factory set up! :D

There's nothing like a power smile :D:lol

:thumb2 Doug!

That's it Jay, let the limp mode be your guide to setting your limit just under.
The only job of the Dawes valve is to hold it there, and it is brilliant at it.
Then you can have some fun with the needle valve, but it sounds like you're in the right area with your readings.

More boost, lower EGTs. Creates a powerhouse for off-roading.

Less boost, then slightly higher EGTs but keeps the PSIs lower for long road work.

Finding a happy medium is the key.

Well I was gonna do the EGT gauge tomorrow, but I don't have a 1/8th tap! :doh

That's a pain.
I had to borrow one as well from an old imperial engineer over the road.
Best to get the right thing for a proper job though, and some oil as a cutting lube too.
D

Not a bad days work today.

Started off by contouring and shaping some MDF to fit the top of the dash.

Once I was happy enough with the shape, I added a few more internal supports.

The plan then was to use some thinner ply and curve it round to make a lid of sorts, but that didn't turn out well. :doh

So I decided that I'd go down the fiberglass route.

I stretched some fabric over the frame work and stapled into place.

Then a quick test fit of the whole rig before I start my research on using fibreglass!

HMMM....

Think I'm gonna knock this Idea on the head.

Been driving around with it on the dash for a bit now, and although it doesn't restrict my view, I'm just not sure I like it!

Back to the drawing board.
