i have been trawling the tinternet for days and days, now my head hurts and my eyes are sore. i have found this

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...b/quicksearch/true/radius/10/page/1?logcode=p

its local ish and i have him down to 4k (its a start) the problem is i looked underneath and saw oil had dripped on to the front axel from above. poped the bonned and the rear is wet through with oil, the tyres are also bald and the sunroof leeks (common problem). he said he will do the tyres and fix the oil thing for 4k but i need to know if its a belt or chain and when do they need replacing. i also would like to know what the oil leek could be as i cant aford another if i buy a dog. any other common problems? any help welcome.

cheers larson

I'm sure someone will be along to clarify but I do know that TD5's suffered a problem with the Oil Pump Drive Bolt coming loose and starving the engine of oil:eek:

I believe the 300 tdi (and probably the 200tdi) are timing belts. Personally, if theres some oil down there, for that amount of money, forget it. You know what these cars are like for reliablility, so unless its full service history i would avoid!

On the plus side, a bit of oil underneath helps stop the rear floor and cross members from rotting out LMAO!:lol

i have to say though, 4x4 prices (I know this has been discussed) are excessive, I mean, its nearly £4k for this disco on an S plate...£4k! for me, it would have to be pretty much MINT for that amount of money.

Just been reading today that the 4x4 sector is the only one thats bucked the trend and seen s/h prices rising....

do you think thats a knock on effect of this years snow? because I cant see any other reason apart maybe from the scap car allowance going...

But you aren't married! is this a scam? :lol:lol:lol

And Larson, why a Disco...? £4k would buy you a Terrano about four years newer and twice as dependable....???

trawled the internet and cant find a terrano localy or i would take one..

Cant see any reason to even think of paying that for that car :doh

Just doing some serious research (in case I need to negotiate once it goes in to get fixed). Looking at advertised prices it would cost me between £500 & £1000 more than I paid last year to replace with the same.

Gobsmacked.

If you'd asked me back then I would have said it would now be worth f all, economic crisis and all of that :D

I think theres a flow down effect from the increased taxation on new 4x4s - if you think about it, the days of the (relatively) cheap 4x4 are somewhat numbered....

i tont want to travel far to say no to the car.. if i drive 2/3 hours ill be pissed off and just buy... needs to be close..

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...0/radius/20/postcode/hx28lb/page/12?logcode=p

this is close and more like it. but i want to pay 4k for it.. is that a fair price? im phoning shortly

not intrested no more he had a foreign acent

which might explain why its a bit cheaper???!! Have a look, nothing to lose, and if you've got cash....£4k is in sight...

Never ever buy a Landy without service history.
There are two types of Green-oval drivers, the first type make them their pride and joy for years and years, tending to them like fragile houseplants. Naturally these guys keep a portfolio of history for their baby. I have a mate with a 1997 Disco with 200,000 on its clock, it looks and drives like new and I find it rather embarassing he is always helping me fix my Nissan which is slowly dying with a mere 100,000 on its clock...

Then theres the workers... these motors are what give Land-Rovers their bad name! If its not got history 9 times out of 10 its been a worker :(

Got to agree with clivvy, £4k for an S plate disco, no way:eek:
I bought my S plate Trol with 82k miles and a service history for £2750 back in January.
