Tappets are easy to adjust, however, if you over adjust so there is no clearance, or too little clearance, then you can burn a valve, which will involve removing the cylinder head.:doh
Heat is transferred between the valve and the valve seat during normal operation.

If the valves don't close fully, you will also loose compression, and reduced engine power, and efficiency.

Correct valve clearances are essential for efficiency.:thumb2
