Lots more where these come from :(

From someone who is called when the shit has happened removing peoples sons, daughters, wives and husbands bodies from cars. Picking up the body pieces off the road. These camera's are there because WE motorists speed. If we did not then they would not have installed them.

Off soap box.

I'd beg to differ....the biggest reasons they are there are because (i) some bright spark invented them and so theres now a corporate interest in seeing more and more of them deployed (for a fat profit to the manufacturer), along with their newer ideas like long distance average speed cameras etc.. that they continue to push, then (ii) persuaded the government that there was money to be made.

The evidence that they make any real difference is slim to feck all, indeed fabricated in many cases. The governments own sources (Thatcham RR Lab) states that speed is a contributory factor in less than 7% of RTAs, and that more than two thirds of pedestrians involved in RTAs are over the alcohol limit....

And where are all the traffic cops who COULD stop the little Saxo twats???? Cos if you seriously think a few speed cameras are going to stop the unde 25s from driving like cretins you're off your trolley with respect :thumb2

Ill tell you where all the traffic cops are, they are sitting on the arses doing nowt, go to any service area in the country, you will see them parked up and talking in there pretty motors having a crafty fag etc, when if they were to go to the lorry parks they would see blatant crime in action, eastern europeans selling all sorts of crap, doing dodgy deals and even people trafficking.... BUT they aint interested as its to much hassle to start the paperwork... I was sitting at South Mimms services last summer, on a tacho break and within 45 mins I witnessed a car transporter from Hungary pulling up and guess what, after 10 mins the doors on the cars onboard opened and around 20/25 people got out, the driver needed to use a ladder to get them down off the upper deck, all with suitcases and sports bags, then a minibus pulled up and they all got in and way they went, Now if that aint dodgy what is, What time did this take place... around 2.30 in the afternoon, you may ask yourself why I didnt do anything like ring the police, well Ive stuck my nose in before when I reported an accident involving 2 vans, and again guess what happened, it was my drum they were banging on at 3 in the morning, dragging me out of bed and DEMANDING a statement at the cop shop, and IF I refused then I would be ARRESTED,charming, would never do it again..... but dont let anyone kid you, theyve had their number cut, yes. But then they dont do the work that they did before, the majority of the work done on the motorways is now done by the higways agency, you know them twats that failed the police force exam and dreamt to much of being in the force, absolute arses, the best way of causing an accident and making a 5 mile taiback is the HIGHWAYS AGENCY,

I know that there are members on here who are Police officers and may well disagree big style, but I can only tell you how I see it and how it is to a normal everyday bloke going about his everyday business trying to make a crust... I believe we should go back to how it was and get rid of these numpty Higways agency fools and give the power back with sole responsability back to the police, as again when the shit really hits the fan who turns up, Yes youve got it the Police. So whats the real point in employing the Highways agency in the first place, No doubt I will be put in my place, I expect it, but wont take it on board till I see it with my own eyes,

Sorry for the long post it really does annoy me when I see my hard earned tax going down the pan everyday I work...

I have got one of those speed camera sensors in my terrano you plug it in the cigarette lighter never speed around town anyway .But on the open road you always seem to creep over a bit ,And it has saved me a few times

well another benefit of having a proper satnav instead of trying to install shite software on a pi55y little telephone (sorry lads on satnav thread!:lol) is that units like TomTom let you set a gong that goes off if you exceed whatever speed limit you happen to be driving in (they are all knwoin to the navigation software)...so goes opff at 35 in a 30, 55 in a 50 etc..

I have it on all the time.

I lent it to my 20 year-old daughter to drive to Wales and back and she's giving it "Dad what the hell was the bonging noise that kept going off all the time???"

Kids! :doh

thats exactly the same as mine will bong if i set it to when going over marked speed limits i can also set a manual one for motorways so if i wanted to stay at 60 i can set it to bong if i go above that mine also shows current speed and current speedlimit in the signal and distance box

as it is the map that stores these and they are the same maps across the range of tomtom

but if i get bored of that one i can go for igo8 or memory maps or navigon or route 66 depends on my mood, tomtom has all the funny voices tho :lol:thumbs

how do u find the garmin for battery life ?

The garmin software is on the phone, so it's phone battery life is about 3 hours, but can be extended by dimming the screen or voice prompts only if things are dire. I always have it on charge in the car though while sat naving:thumbs

Lets put it in perspective, good and bad in all jobs.

I was lambasted by an irate female for using my radio (fastened to my jacket) whilst sitting at a junction. It was in the days before it was unlawful to use a phone whilst driving.

Turns out she'd been bollocked (not prosecuted) for her standard of driving whilst using her phone. Her words to me were along the lines of I got told off and here you are using your radio. My response was quite simply when did i say it was wrong and tell you off? in fact have we ever met before?

think about it, dont tarr all with the same brush :thumbs

(to be fair she did calm down we had a good chat although i never took up her offer of a free hair cut at her trendy salon :augie )

Daved, whatever gave you that impression :naughty :naughty

Honestly, No I havent, BUT ive seen a lot of balck tar over the years and its a occupational hazard lets say,

This aint a dig at briggie but nearly 30 yrs, no points and only 1 warning and that was from VOSA, now dont start me on these muppets, again another road related body that wants a good shake up,

Its suprising what you see when your double manned and sitting in the passenger seat, its this that gives me my reasons and conclusions

NOTHING ELSE, HONEST OFFICER.....:lol :lol :lol

i passed my test at 17 ( im 56 now ) i have never had a accident that was my fault ( except on a race track and that doesnt count ) i am a member of the institute of advanced motorists and up untill i get prosecuted for my crime , i had a clean licence , it comes down to the basic facts ..... i broke the law and i fully expect to get punished for doing so .... complacency is a very dangerous thing when driving , as in all walks of life ..... no offence taken monty

Yeah agree with you there, but it aint helping your case when you see the programmes on the telly that show Essex police travelling up and down the A12 AND A13 AND A120, swanning about like chips and co, yet when my truck was turned over at Asda Romford, virtually right across from the cop shop, could I get anyone to see me, well you know the answer, Nah, av a word with security at Asda they may have something on the cameras, and then ring blah blah and get a crime number, Too much fannying about on the telly aint good when joe average is been hammered by his/her boss about keeping to a tight schedule...

I agree Pete with everything you say and this is why I think there should be SOMETHING that can be done for people like you, as to retain your licence in its current state, it was a small mistake on your part and if you had to attend a days training and a mini written test Im sure youd take advantage of it like Clivvy did and ACTUALLY learn something that you didnt know before. I aint saying your thick or owt but we can all learn whatever age anyone is.

Its not fair, well I dont think it is and as you know I always say this is my opinion only

Agreed :thumbs
BUT, sometimes a stiff ballocking would be good instead of instant fixed penalty etc.
Just my experiance I'm afraid:doh:doh
No angel me but they're always so bloody high and mighty:eek:
I'm sure there's some really good policemen about but we've never managed to speak to one sensibly.
Nowt personal though :)

think i have been lucky, i meet the nice ones at a rate of over 50% traffic wise.

but normal policing nice ones come in at less than 25%

i find the traffic ones seem to have a better attitude and often prefer the role of prevention . i.e pull you for failed lighting or tyres looking low. or something like that

obviously i know a few around here , due to recent issues and often have a giggle or a short race round the country roads, when no one is looking.

i suppose the regular fuzz have to account for there time with paperwork, ave to deal with the public in response to complaints or problems , so they have to deal with grumpy public or punters from the offset .

having said all this i always deny the speeding shite

was a fixed speed camera ... i thought they were stopping those ? ..... i admit to being a criminal , but i thought they werent allowed to use fixed cameras any more ? :nenau

there are certain shires have stopped using them Oxford for one and swindon i beleive but there is no blanket switch off

what type of fixed was it and were you facing it dor took from the rear as gatso only count if took from the rear

also ask for a copy of the calibration certificate if they cant supply one you can get it squashed
