I just remember our local plod around here in shady staffordshire, theyd stop you yeah no problem BUT they as Makeitfit says would just give you a decent bollocking, now this had the intended reaction and if your light was out then youd get it fixed, and pronto as you knew that if you didnt theyd come down on you like a tonne of bricks, Now thou, well its all about trying to make you look an idiot by talking to you as if your a child and all this pc (no pun intended) shite. Had an instance where a sargeant was teaching a constable how to do the job and unfortunately the constable was a woman, talk about bravado,it actually made me feel sick being a bloke how he was preening and ponceing about, it wasnt till I told him that the truck was a 7.5 tonne vehicle and the restriction was for 18 tonne vehicles that he changed his tune, did he apologise no, instead it was ok bye on ya way, if this arse was the teacher, what was the student going to turn out like, to me its all about assesing the situation and using your own judgement, not reading from a defied script that has been taught in a classroom. In order for the general public to ASSIST the police they really do need to up therir game, and as Daved says we shouldnt tar everyone with the same brush, BUT I bet these BETTER coppers are the old hats who have seen a bit of life prior to joining the force.

My brother in law has just been on one of those courses, he had a ticket saying he had been photographed at "0" miles per hour and the photo showed his front wheel on the white line at the lights, my son had the same thing on his push bike when he was booked at the front of the lights with his wheel over the line whilst waiting for them to change....... money making or what? Not a criminal or safety issue but of course the council do collect the money...regards bri
how did they trace the push bike

i am a member of the institute of advanced motorists and up untill i get prosecuted for my crime , i had a clean licence , it comes down to the basic facts ..... i broke the law and i fully expect to get punished for doing so .... complacency is a very dangerous thing when driving , as in all walks of life ..... no offence taken monty

A realistic view :thumb2

How does the IAM view penalty points/offences? I was told theyre quite righteous about them :nenau No experience myself , not a member.

Fair enough :D

I had to do a reassessment when I got mine. Ironic really as the level I held at the time allowed me to go 30mph over the limit :D

As you say though complacency is not good.

To be totally honest, and Im serious when I say this, Im always thankful when I get home and put the key in the hole and push the door open, for me I worry about the kids starting off in life as a driver, god knows what it will be like in 20/25 yrs time, Ive been very lucky in some respects, Its given me a good living, Ive seen places all around the UK and Europe that I probably wouldnt of seen, met good people and shits and laughed and joked at people and been laughed at, Ive always worked and havent had bad health due to my job, so its been good to me. BUT as I say NOW im glad to get home in one piece... it isnt a matter of being complacent its a matter that you cant afford to be complacent in the first place,

Sorry for the downhearted post but its true, trust me, it gets harder by the day to enjoy your job and Ive always been of the opinion that a happy worker is a good worker :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

ok ive checked.....

The IAM Special Assessment is only open to IAM Members who:

•Do not have any proceedings of any sort (including a Fixed Penalty Notice) pending against them.
Members who cannot meet these requirements will still have access to the (ordinary) IAM Driving Assessment. Members will be permitted to undertake only one Special Assessment in any twelve-month period.

When I did my Advanced test thing they weren't too fused about points that I can remember.
I've only had about 6 weeks of clean license ever:doh
IAM told me I'd be able to get cheaper insurance too, yeh right:eek:
Ah just remembered, that's the only time I've spent an hour with plod and not been under arrest :lol

info for daved

Police officers

As a serving or retired police officer you are uniquely placed to make a valuable contribution to road safety, not only in your official capacity, but by supporting the IAM's work through membership. However, since this test is based on the police system of car control, police officers holding one or more of the qualifications listed below are eligible for full membership of the IAM without further testing:
