Mine makes the noise between 50 and 60. Did the noise stop when you replaced the ujs on front prop and to test could I just remove front prop and take it for a spin ??

So does this Terrano have fixed hubs then?
If so, the UJ's don't have grease nipples, or a grease nipple on the sliding joint either.

Earlier Terranos and Mavericks with auto hubs, had three nipples on the front prop shaft, which weren't really that essential as the prop shaft only turned in 4 wheel drive, so Nissan really got this wrong...:doh

So best to remove the front prop shaft and go for a run. ( 8 bolts) But mark up with a chalk line to make sure it goes back the same as it might affect the balance...

Hmmm.... I wonder if it is off balance, but more likely worn UJ's.:thumb2

Another issue is rear diff, the oil might need replacing, but with LSD oil.
Also it is best to have the same make of tyre, with the same depth of tread on the rear wheels, to save over working the rear LSD.

:thumb2

Good point with the tyres but iv had two new boots on back, I done the rear ujs a few months ago so it could well be the fronts as my front prop turns all the time due to the fixed hubs.

Well just been out in the motor and hopped down 2 Junctions and sure enough the noise and vibration is still there just as before. I tried taking it out of gear, hard braking, hard on the gas and then off the gas on over run, nothing has made any difference at all.

I would still like to try changing the wheels from old truck to the new one. This propshaft is sounding promising but costly, how difficult a job is it to remove it? do I have to be a contortionist or remove other bits too.

Cheers

one thing you taught me when I was at my worst jim , was never give up ....I didn't .......and passed exams because of it .:thumb2

It is really very straightforward to remove and replace.
Rustic has described pretty well,. arm yourself with a pair of 15mm combination spanners, preferably one would be a ratchet ring.
There are no other bits to remove.
The exhaust is close to the front UJ so make sure it is not hot!
10~15mins tops.

If removing it does resolve the issue you may as well leave it off until it is either replaced or repaired.

You will have to remove the engine under cover, then you can get to the bolts.

You can run without the front propshaft forever and a day, unless you want 4 wheel drive.:augie
So it gives you an opportunity to do a refurb, or fit a replacement.

I am not sure if the Propshaft from the older terrano with the grease nipples is the same length as the newer ones, as the gear boxes are slightly different.

I fitted the front shaft from a 1999 2.7L manual to my 2002 3.0L auto, that worked fine. But do measure first!

There are 2 lenghts 645mm and 605mm the length depends on year not engine size changed somewhere around 2002 ish best check length before ordering one the size is closed length

While you are under there give your rear prop a look as well as if you are doing UJ's you might as well do them all if the rears are on the way out.

UJ's are easy to replace bud, I had a blooooooody mare first time but would be happy in saying I could do a UJ replacement now in 30 mins

Wasn't it when Renault got their hands on it and fitted the gay timid rear diff that the front prop got shorter too?

I know my 1999 T2 had grease nipples on the UJ's & the siding part of the front prop but on this one there are no grease nipples & it's a solid prop. The last set of UJ's I replaced Jim was for my Disco 2 & it took about an hour to change all 3 as the front prop had a single at the rear & a double at the front which was fun to do:augie & cost £46 for a 3 UJ's but as the T2 only has 2 it should cost less:thumb2

Just read above, if Clivvy doesn't think it's that don't waste your money just yet, go for a wheel change and see what happens then
