still waiting mate.
not run any stainless for a while but as soon as he does he is doing me 100 of them.
also supposed to be making me some hardened shims for adjusting the camber which I was promised two days ago.cant really grumble as he is not charging me for them just a favour in return when he needs something powdercoated.
good news is wheel bearings have arrived so will get them fitted over weekend.:clap

How much would you charge me to powdercoat my alloys matte black?

Didn't get time today but will be ordering both ujs from Milners, might as well whilst it's in bits. There's no real hurry to get it put back together, main thing is that it's back on the road and feels safe.

Banshee yeah it's fixed hubs but the wheels wouldn't allow auto hubs to be fitted.

Feel a lot better about it now guys thanks for the support and advice.

Glad you have got it sorted Jim, now you can start to love your Terry ;)

Glad you've found out what it is:thumb2 shame your not closer Jim or i'd have replaced them for you

I've got a couple of bits to sort after this such as the inter cooler and it's hoses are just wrong, looks like the ic is about half inch too big and then the tracking. For reason place I take it to can't seem to centre the steering wheel and they've done it three times now. However I must now focus on the old truck and get her through the test.

God that's easy you add a bit of length to one side & take the same amount off the other but know what you mean it's to hard for some to work out:doh

Other than the tracking the tyre place is really good and trustworthy too.

The cars driving loads better now after all the work it's had done but for now I have to sort the old one out an do some swotting for a huge interview in July.

Mine makes the noise between 50 and 60. Did the noise stop when you replaced the ujs on front prop and to test could I just remove front prop and take it for a spin ??

Mine was doing exactly the same, i got the front ujs changed, problem solved.

Thanks for a great post and glad Jim got his sorted.

I assume its best to check/do the long prop as well ? Can i remove it, and go around in 4wd for a while, without fear of damaging the transmission?

Cheers,
Simon.

Good Morning,

I can't find the thread, but if I remember correctly I read somewhere that you can't drive any distance with the rear propshaft removed, as one of the ends is not fixed in, so either the Transfer box, or the Diff end will slide out over time, be lost/damaged and empty the oil out as well.

I am pretty sure it was the Transfer box end, as when you remove the front prop, and leave it in 2wd, it is not being turned so stays put, but if you remove the rear one, and put it into 4wd, the rear shaft drive is being turned still, so works it's way out.

Hopefully Rick will see this and correct me if I am wrong.

To be honest, it's only 8 bolts to drop it out, so even if you have to take the propshaft to someone to have it done, it only takes a few mins to remove it, and it is so easy, you can do it at the road side, health and safety issues being taken into account..:nenau :augie

When I had my tracking done the other week, the guy did it all, took the car for a spin, and the steering wheel was off centre. He noticed that when he released the clamp that holds the steering wheel centred, the wheel moved. He put it back on the ramps, did it again, and again the wheel moved when he released it, and the steering wheel was off centre... He then put the car back on the ramps, centred the wheel, and locked it in place, but left the engine running, so the power steering was working... re-did tracking and it was perfect.

Still can't work out why, as the road wheels were on those swivel plates and could be moved easily by hand etc.

Might be worth a try.

4 bolts to remove the rear prop and slide it out of the box, but oil will leak, you can reduce this enough for a quick run about by stuffing the gap with rag, bearing in mind the splined shaft will still rotate, Rick
