After a visit to the garage my initial diagnosis was confirmed and it is the transmission input shaft.

Waiting for a quote to have the bearing replaced. They need to remove the gearbox and send it to a gearbox specialist to replace the bearing. I have a feeling that this won’t be a cheap fix.

Once the gearbox is off I also asked for them to repalce the flywheel as that is worn. Now the hunt starts for a dual mass flywheel wheel.

Edit. The quote for the bearing replacement is £920 subject to any further issues found with the gearbox.
I'd have bought a better radio/speaker set up.

£920 for fix but .........

I am thinking they will not charge you any more labour for the Flywheel as that has to be removed anyway.

Was it a genuine Nissan Clutch when it was done in 2017 ?

The price seems pretty fair if that includes parts & VAT do you know what sort of warranty the gearbox repair will carry if any?

I always worry when one firm takes the gearbox out & a different one repairs it as you are stuck in the middle if anything goes wrong. Who will foot the bill if the gearbox needs to be taken out again if it all goes wrong or there is an oil leak ?

The garage that removes the gearbox will carry the can if it goes wrong. They take the job on and quote me a complete price. That they need to take the gearbox to a specialist is not my problem.

Nissan can provide me with a new DMF at a price of £1054! I think that the old one will remain in place and if/when it fails it will be replaced with a solid flywheel. A new solid flywheel including clutch is around £500.

Yes, that price is all inclusive. I quite like that the box goes to a gearbox specialist as he will also check the general condition of the box. At least I will know that the gearbox is in good shape when it comes back.

The transmission input shaft bearing was completely shot. The gearbox was removed and Geartech Hartlebury did the repairs. They checked the whole gearbox and all was found in good working order. All in all the cost including removal and installation came to £1118.
