Probably is a bit drastic Jim but it's been plated in the rear by me and had had some done before I got it.
There isn't that much good metal left.
All the strengthening sections on the underneath are crusty and rotten.
It will actually be easier and less work to cut out the lot and replace.
Also replacing the sills with box section as they are starting to go.

Yeah it'll be a better truck in the long term. Had my sills replaced on my old truck last year, they too had been patched before. Found a bloke in Barnsley who replaced both sills inner and outer for £200. He used sheet steel and has a press to bend metal that is long enough for sills so its a nice neat job.

Check your front arches and inner wings as well as the short rear sills behind the rear bumper. Might as well and if they need doing you can do them at the same time. You'll have a stronger longer lasting truck.

Good luck and follow the project through it'll be well worth it when you're done.

Thankfully mines not this severe, I'll replace the sills with some box sectioned sliders which is killing 2 birds with one stone, the rest is just in silly awkward places.
Once the carpets are out in the front I can crack on with it.

They never rot in easy to get at places :lol
What size box section are you using for the sills Simon?
I was going to use 100x100 3mm wall.

Local fabricator guy is hopefully doing it so I'll see what he's got. They'll need to be pretty sturdy so I'm assuming they'll be simular dimension to the original sill size.

Started cutting out the rusty floor from the terrano today ready for a shiny new one :thumb2
Can't see it in the picture but the join on the two panels has rusted through across most of the panel.

Might need to trim the arches on my new ride to get the wheels on :lol

Ooooooooooooooooo blimey that's a bit of work, still once done its solid for a long time. Those arches are quite bad and will take some careful welding wasn't expecting that, I can only imagine your delight at finding that hidden gem!!!

Love to see those 33's on the terios :lol

If they would fit mate they would be on it:lol
The front is a 225 75 15 and that will be going on it once I've given it a bit of a lift.

Have done worse, just spent the last 4 weekends welding up my mates disco so this is a breeze compared to that :thumbs

Just need some Troll axles and some Caterham style front cycle wing things and it will be Awesome:augie

Looks a great little truck!

I've got plenty of 1.6mm stainless sheets if needed, probably wasted on the expanse of the boot floor. but great for the gravel rash areas of the wheel arches.

Do you think you may get out to play at the end of the month:nenau

Nice one Elty, can't wait to see the new metal going in. Just spent most of the weekend sorting drivers footwell and body mounting with my son.

Would be nice but I don't think I will have it done in time.
Also doing the sills with box section as they are starting to go aswell.
Also camber to sort out and valve stem oil seals to change.

Welding Discos :( the phrase in mind is rephrased as ....relieving ones self standing into a force 10 gale :lol:lol

:lol:thumbs
I don't think my mate realised how bad it was until I started cutting out the rot.
He thought we would have it done in a weekend.

That's why they've got the name and reputation of the Rot Rover :lol

I can confirm this as fact, I would say 40% of my range rover is now new metal, box section sills, loads of floor, chunks of chassis, new boot floor, if it wasn't for the fact the bobtail conversion is really well done I would of scraped it.. Anyway looking forward to seeing the rebuild
