I've a 2.7tdi, starts fine, but drives like a naturally aspirated engine, it'll do 70 on the motorway, no smoke from the exhaust, there's no turbo whine tho, acts like its not there. It drives ok if a little slowly taking time to get up to speed.
The MAF is bosch, cleaned it, no idea if it's working ok or not.

Doesn't conk out, ticks over evenly, no fault code showing.
Doesn't sound like the turbo tho, no smoke etc

Filters?
MAF?

New to this motor so help required please.................

Un plug the MAF and give it a drive see if there is any diffrence?

I've had three of these in 12 years Dave and never heard a turbo yet, so don't expect any reaction except the boost it gives (which doesn't feel that great TBH). Even when I fitted a K&N induction kit, which gave a small improvement, all I get is the sound of a bit of air being sucked in if I push it hard.

have you checked your air filter?

BTW is it a round or square headlight jobbie? i.e. pre- or post-facelift?

Bearing in mind your speedo over-reads by 8-10%, you should get an easy 80-90mpg indicated and (some say) 100 after a bit of a wait... :)

Hi iv got a bosch maf that i no is good and a turbo thats good if you find the fault?:thumb2

MAF, U/S don't waste time and effort cleaning them:)

Thanks al, very helpful.

Not much difference if the MAF is disconnected tho, air box filter is relatively clean, The MAF is one of the bosch film jobbies, might well put a meter on it today to see what's happening.

Engine seems so unresponsive........
I've been told that the MAF from a vectra is the same, how true that is, I have no idea as yet. Thanks for the offers of MAF tho, going to have a good look at the rest of the engine, egr etc today.........

One thing which concerned me, I went round a roundabout yesterday, it was raining, and the back end lost grip and the car went sideways, I wasn't hoofing it, thought it might be diesel so drove the same around the next roundabout, the car started to lose its grip with the back end sliding out?

Front suspension too soft??

Again, your help is sought!

Cheers

Dave

Front suspension is a possibility
Even ride hight
What grade are your tyres front & back  Are they a matching set,2 pairs or all different

I've just put a pair of new Grade 6's on the front with all ready fitted Grade 2's on the back & mine is twichy on the rear but next weekend i put the matching Grade 6's on the rear all should be well

Don't know about the Vectra MAF:nenau

If you phone round some Nissan Dealers you can get the MAF for £30odd:thumb2 if its old stock they will be looking for £80ish:doh

If the MAF was 100% and you unplug it you will notice the difference.

T2's can be lively in the wet, rear end stepping out (LSD oil could need changing)

Your engine might not have an EGR.
:)

I'm going to change the oils this week, filter on the engine has a small weep anyhow.

I've seen the manual on here but can only see the front two pages, unless I'm being daft, which is often, is the rest of it around??

Cheers for the answers, EGR? is that the block with pipes on the right hand side of the engine bay as you face the front of the car?
Tyres are all the same 235 70 16, no idea what the grades are?
The cars' a 2000 on an X plate...... 2+ it says on the rear :)

Just click on the chapter heading that you want on the first and it will take you through.

If your engine has an EGR.

Looking at the car from the front with bonnet open.

Its at the back of the Cylinder head on the inlet manifold (left). If I remember right its very hard to get at.
I also remember somewhere that most EGR's were fitted to Hitachi Maf engines and zexcel pumps, not bosch, but if I'm wrong someone will come along and say so. Mines was bosch with no EGR (1998)

When my MAF died the engine was gutless:doh and it didn't just fail suddenly. I got one from Nissan for £34 as they had to order it.
I changed it in the dealers car park and it was like a different car, so much better.

My money is still on your MAF as when you unplugged it it made little difference.
I've also heard of people putting a meter on them finding it ok, but they change it and its much better

Keep us informed

All this talk of MAF failure. I guess theyre a bit of an achilles heel and you wont notice the gradual decline in their performance ?

Is it worth cleaning them regularly? I've seen cleaner advertised on ebay.

Is it even worth keeping a spare in the tool box?

I'm not sure it is. I've done over 250,000 miles in 3 x T2s and never had a MAF problem. And when they go, its probably the little bit of electronics that converts the wire temperature into a signal the ECU can understand - if you've got a decent air filter its unlikely anything of significance is going to get on the wire....just my humble opinion ;)

And a reassuring opinion :thumb2 I do have a very good quality filter fitted and I look after the car.

My line of thought was it may just be one of those things like the lower wishbones on mondeos...own a mondeo and even if it stands still you just know youre going to end up changing at least one of them :(

There is a member on here who's had to replace the MAF twice in 2 years. (Arthur) PM him for info.

Never heard of a Hitachi failing always seems to be Bosch.
Yes you can't interchange them, before anyone asks, different systems.

Nissan will tell you its one of the most common problems on a T2. There description is your engine feels like the turbo isn't working.

:)

Not that the T2/Mav has many problems, very reliable car. I read somewhere that there was or is 40000 on British roads.

Dave if it fails or is failing you'll know.

If yours is a Bosch, unplug it and go for a run round the block and you'll know what I mean. If there ain't much difference, its on its road out.

It will still pull your van, but slowly:lol

:)

But it would be interesting to try just to see what happens. But the connectors are different so a bit of rewiring would be needed...maybe one day when I'm feeiling mischievious! :naughty:sly

Cheers guys,
Turned out to be the MAF..............

Now going nicely.

Just need to sort out the mechanical problems, of which there are not many thank goodness.

Regards

Dave
