New steering wheel fitted, deep dish aftermarket.

Quite like it, largest I could find but still about 50mm narrower than the original so feels a bit weird... but I'll get used it ;) :lol

It would be!

I wouldn't have changed if the outer coating on the stock wheel hadn't started coming away from the inner metal core but aside from the small difference in diameter it's actually a bit better with the aftermarket as I have just a bit more space for getting in and out :lol (big legs:augie)

Oopsies :hide:

Sore topic T-Doug! :lol

Should pick her up next Saturday... after 14 weeks! Desperate to get her back as it's the final piece of the puzzle to let me put all of the things (of which the gearbox was one of the smaller bumps) that happened in 2017 behind me.

The main delay with the truck was due to me telling the mechanic (a very busy one man band) that there was no rush, so the truck was put to the side as he had lots of other vehicles coming in :doh

We ended up setting a deadline of mid January, had hoped to pick up last Saturday but it got put back to yesterday due to issues with the parts suppliers... then I got a text on Friday to say he'd caught a sickness bug and wouldn't have the gearbox back together until next week.

Anyway, long story short, I should have Bess back next Saturday having had a full autobox refurb (new seals, brake bands etc even a new torque converter) and a Transgo Shift Kit fitted (one of these https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/TransGo-SK...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 ).

Was under £70 including the wee bit of import duty bud.

Not a bloody chance, been bouncing off the walls waiting to get my Trol back :lol

See that's why I like you bro, you come out with these funny comments as well as being funny to look at :lol:lol:lol:thumbs

Honestly, I was a manual man for a long time but I'm a convert to an auto. So nice to drive and you can't beat that control offroad. I know you weren't impressed but I honestly think that's because you don't know how to get the best out of an autobox (and I don't mean excessive left foot braking!)

You know I like a Lokka and I'll probably get one for the 4.2 eventually but with that tight LSD I really didn't miss it in the Lakes :nenau She walked up Parkamoor fine without left foot braking :p and without a Lokka.

:lol I reckon you should take it steady when you get it back, 45-50mph max and no flooring it or you'll bust it straight away big lad. How well do you know the guy doing the work?

I won't be ragging her straight away certainly but keeping the speed down won't make any difference for the box bud, I'll need to get her up to speed to get her into 3rd speed, overdrive and TC lockup and get the oil flowing through all the valves and seals.

What bothered the box before wasn't normal or even hard offroading, it was me making it work much harder than normal for an extended period by overusing the left foot braking and increased throttle technique. This caused the box to overheat due to the slipping clutch packs (caused by the technique) and burnt the remaining friction material off an already worn clutch pack for the 3rd speed (I've seen the pic, it was down to bare metal!). Bess has basically got a new autobox fitted and that shift kit will increase the line pressure on the clutch packs and help stop them slipping and the box overheating. Driveability will be improved as well as the early shifts will be firmer.

Once I get her back I'm going to fit an aftermarket transmission cooler for the box as well which will keep her good for all that ragging to come ;)

I know him by rep and reviews, heard a lot of good things about him and got a good vibe when I spoke to him initially and again when I dropped the truck off. He is /was busy though, 4 cars in front of me when I dropped the truck off!

She's back!

Gearbox completely overhauled and Transgo shift kit fitted (recommend the shift kit to anyone with an auto).

I'm whole again! :D
