Yep agree with Wallace, def bearing cage so the rest of the bearing will be pants, Rick

pity its manual as i have a 3l o2 auto rick did not use on mime going.

Right, I'll be updating this as I go until my brother finally pulls his finger out and sets himself an account up on here and starts trying to become a bit more tech savvy and looking after his own project thread!!!!

He's umming and arring at the moment an with the prospect of how big the job is he's well aware that he may as well do the clutch whilst he's in there which if he goes for a Borg & Beck same as the one I fitted in my 2.7 as a mod then he will be looking another £250 and then £60 again for gearbox fluids.

He doesn't want the risk of buying a 2nd hand box unless he can test drive the vehicle himself that has the box in it before it's removed so we can ensure that its not dudd, but this is an even bigger ask than finding one in the first place.

All things considered, we're going to look at the option of having someone refurb the gearbox or dare I say it, refurbing and rebuilding ourselves tools and skills permitting :nenau

Can anyone recommend anyone out there that has reputation for doing a nice rebuild on a box like this?

Does anyone on here have a 3 litre box for sale?

And are we 100% that the 2.7 and the 3.0 are different boxes? :nenau

Mate, my brother has a 2.7 swb sitting here. His plan is to export it as the geezer he uses gives him £350 per vehicle.

It's rotten but drives very well.

Just a thought:nenau

I better not risk it mate, probably look identical and have the same numbers on the casting etc but we'd be under the truck before finding out it won't fit :doh

When he's got his replacement I'm having the old box off him and I'm going to rebuild it

ahhhhhhhhhhhh in them old days when i had my shop and i had a gbox problem come in it was a drop it out and strip it down and try to remember where it all went and find dodgy part/s and rebuild.not nowadays though lol.i never did an auto though always that went to a specialest to sort out.
gb take time and space to lay parts out.

I willing to try a rebuild myself as I'm now armed with a 6ton hydraulic press but my brother is too much of a worrier to let me loose on it :doh

Either way, I'll be rebuilding that box one way or another :augie

Ive got a spare gearbox Zac if you need any photo's or or measurements. I do know its slightly different with the sensors on the back end compared to mine but I know it would fit and I could make it work.

I'm gonna stay out of this one now I reckon matey.

I've given my brother the options and he's going to have to make a decision soon as if anything that oil change has made the noise worse now and he's worried it's going to give up any minute :doh

Update on the brothers truck, Gearbox has FAILED, in a fashion

He was luckily about 5 mins from home when it happened, changed from 2nd to 3rd and that's where it stayed!!!! No noises no dramatic stop. He was finally able to force it out of 3rd but after he did that it's been impossible to get back in. So he had to give it beans in 2nd and then miss 3rd, into 4th.

Believe it or not though he's struggling to find a clutch for it at the moment, doesn't seem like anyone has any stock of the Borg & Beck HK2275 at the moment so he tried to go for a Valeo and then got a message the day later saying he was being refunded due to lack of stock of that as well :doh

I'll be grabbing 5 litres of 75w 90 GL4 from Halfords on the way home for him on my Trade card which brings it down to about £9 ish a litre
