hi all, thanks for looking any help appreciated ...
does my 2.7 2003 have an egr valve and are they blankable like a disco or would this cause damage to intake with the hot exhaust gases? when i put one on my old 300tdi it did seem to rev a bit quicker.
2nd question, in warmer :lol months can i run it on a veg oil mix, straight in the tank, no heaters etc? i ran my old vw t4 on veg oil and realise the need to change fuel filters regularly over the first 2k miles etc.
thanks for reading, mike.

When its over 7 to 10 deg then u can run stright 100% but in winter u need to be either 50/50 veg diesel or 5 to 10% petrol mix

I have a 1999 TDi, and it does not have the EGR, where as Solarman's 1998 does, quickest and safest way is to have a look at the back offside of the engine at the inlet manifold just in front of the fire wall, if you have it,t he valve should be there.

As far as veg oil, basically, yes.. do a search, there are loads and loads of threads on here about it.

Bin the egr completely

10% petrol 90% veg when cold

100% when warm

I get my veg from booker cash and carry £17.99 for 20L KTC

and so do i lol seems silly to collect wvo and convert to bio as my recent post found, if i can get a free or almost free regular supply of the stuff then i will try and give it another go.

i am running my svo at almost 20% at 10% it was gelling badly in the shed, will be trying to find a free supply of misfuel asap

20% petrol ?

wow, thanks for quick and great replies! costco are doing veg oil at 17.99 too which is quite a saving on regular diesel, good news!
as for binning the egr totally(if i have one?), could you give me a brief how to please stinka? will this make any warning lights appear?
again, cheers all, mike.

Btw what's misfuel ?

When people put petrol in diesel cars the fuel is removed and clsssed as misfuel as its unknown how much diesel to petrol mix. I've used it a few times when I can get hold of it

Remove egr valve, have a pattern of the steel gaskets made at your local Engenieering firm from 4mm plate, bolt this over the holes with some copper rtv paste

Oh I see, to mix in with your veg

I spose its a case of asking at local garages ?

OH for a decent diesel engine, I have one, a 1975 Lister twin air cooled SR2, will run on anything, currently on 30% old engine oil 70 % red derv plus a couple of ltrs of acetone per 45 gallon barrel, starts and runs well in these cold temperatures, when Summer returns will up the old oil to 50%, do need to pull the injectors around once a year to clean off the "Stalagtites" that form around the holes, know when it needs doing as it gets harder to start, Rick

that sounds like fuel pump russian roulette lol!

no it runs fine and iv put a lot of svo mixed in usually around 10% petrol but just recently dispite my window ledge fuel gauge (which is still perfectly clear and gell free) my store of svo in the shed started to gell not all of it just two cubies so brought it inside over night then dropped another one litre in each, still plenty of lube for the pump svo is very thick comparred to pump diesel.

Will see what its like in the morning as its another cold one out there and snowing again to :thumb2

God knows what pump mines got, but ive got the hitachi maf, and I run mine on veggie fine, but at moment I'm just on straight diesel. In summer I was running 100% veggie, just get used to changing fuel filter every couple of months.

thanks everyone for your answers, much appreciated. i put some svo in a beaker last year to test thickness, all was fine. have you got all the water out of your oil? i am going to wait for the warmer months, march onwards, to use veg oil as its too cold to be swapping fuel filters in this! how do i know if mine has the small inline filter i have read about on other threads? mine has a normal sized one on the n/s corner if that helps.... thanks again.

How do you find out if it's a Bosch pump, mine is a 1998 2.7 Maverick?

Hitachi MAF = Zexel pump
Bosch MAF = Bosch pump
I've got the Zexel one and have run neat veggie for ages before going on to bio. No pump issues here :thumbs
