depends on what standard you buy but effectively its a precision machined bit of kit as opposed to (as Pete says) a bit of rubber stuffed in. Problem with them though is they wear because theres no rubber to absorb the mechanical shock as it bashed about. Itll be interesting to see how it goes.

If youre a keen photographer (and as you say have some dosh to spare) have a look at the canon eos550d. Highly recommended though go for body only and stick a decent lens on.

The alko balls are apparently manufactured to the same stress loading as conventional tow balls. Only differences is the length of the neck (to give clearance for the stab head) and of course the price :thumb2

I can see your dilemma :( Is there anyway you can split the front to middle joint and replace from there backwards ? front pipes are usually the last to go and may well last a while yet if its the same age as middle/rear pieces. If it screws up later you can replace it at your leisure and...

I would definitely advise nut splitter if it works then a clean up on the thread. One of the studs sheared on mine and it was a b######d to get to and drill.
