Ok, you will think I am barmy but this is legit.

A lot of issues we get similar to yours are related to built up static.

Remove all leads from the laptop

Remove battery from laptop

Hold power button down for 1 minute WITH NOTHING CONNECTED AND NO BATTERY

Put battery back in

I just got home and may be a bit squiffy, tried it and failed :doh

As suggested above but I went a bit further and took it all to bits :augie
Removed a lot of "dog" hair, crumbs and other top gear findings :eek:
Put it all back together again and vrumph we have take off :clap

Now have a new one and the lappy wont fire up.

does the new power unit have the same power output as the old one ? (as opposed to just being the same physical fit)

Only asking because if you have an hp with a docking station the laptop psu will only work on the laptop solo but the docking station psu will work on the laptop solo and in the docking stn. Guess who had to phone IT dept who then phone hp to be told that :augie:augie:augie
