We can both say bad luck with the engine. I'm back from holiday as well and the search for the problem continues.....

True, Patrols in UK don't have many specialists. RB25? Do it now

Good luck with that bud. Worst thing is with mine is thats its a £1500 to 2k gamble. I could spend that much and might not fix it :doh
If it cost any more I would have looked at putting a RB25DET engine in instead.
Just a bugger that there are no Patrol experts knocking about here that know these trucks inside out and are used to modifying them.
so to rebuild a pump its 1.5- 2k is that what your saying?
can you get a second hand one off a breaker, must be some with mechanically buggered engines..
just out of interest the problems didn't start after a new cambelt was fitted? or maybe a timing issue, has the belt jumped a tooth?
another stab in the dark, fuel lines which run from the front to the tank, sometimes these can get tiny corrosion holes which can cause air to get in the system which will cause missing issues. These holes can be miniscule but will cause problems.. This is a lot more common than you think, check the entire length of the fuel lines but usually towards the rear, the fuel system HAS to be completely sealed..
have the injectors been tested ?
do you get ANY white smoke, has the crank position sensor been replaced.. think that comes up with a fault code though not sure.. a descent garage would have found that I would have thought..
Well you and skiingluc are having big hassles with these 2.8's arnt you. Have you thought of ringing one of the big aussie diesel engineers as they know these vehicles and will have come accross all these problems undoubtably.
Just a thought.
