The general consensus is Mineral. A lot of people have had issues with them burning engine oil when using synthetic.

semi is fine as long as its Api Cg/4 rated

And use 15w40

I know a lot of people don't like kwikfit but I had the oil (15/40 semi) and filter changed today for £40. I can't buy the bits for that price.

Jesus ! I might be popping in as for that price I dunno if I can be arsed

You must be shopping in the wrong places then.

oil filter from Millers £3 oil from 15w/40 from cheap place about £14.

But I know what you mean though.

I like to do all my own servicing it means I get to know what's going on, and what issues I should be looking at next.

15/40 (10/40 at a push) and i find mineral oil to be much better, even if it is a little more expensive :thumb2

I'm not sure why everyone always says mineral is dearer ? I see it in wilkinsons and discount warehouses for like £13 for 5 litres when decent semi is £25

milners oil filter

When I purchased a Milner oil filter it was a Boshi or something similar. It caused my oil light to stay on for ages and would drain back as the internal valve was poor. Would never use a cheap filter again. Replaced it with a genuine Nissan Filter for £7.34 inc VAT the next day.
Asda do a semi-synthetic oil for £15 for 5 litres.

Just Checked, Wilkinsons 5ltr 15w40 mineral Oil £12!

If you have never changed an oil filter on these before...:augie

They are something else.
Before draining the oil, try to get to the filter to loosen it first, best on a warm but not too hot engine.

I buy big barrels at trade price (well i did until recently) and semi is as cheap as chips! I have even used the best 0w 5 fully synthetic race grade from Q8 oils in the fuel tank as it is cheaper than veg oil!

Motor factors are robbers! :thumb2

if it in the same place as the 2.7tdi...........take the wheel off and go through the wheel arch rubber cover, much easyier thsi way.

I have tried it from the top on many occasions, but be prepared for oil spillage if it slips out of your hand.
The wheel arch way is easiest to get the strap wrench on as you can see what you are doing.

Also I 3/4 fill the new filter before refitting, it saves running the engine without oil for those crucial 30 seconds without.:doh

flipping heck. I bought my oil online from Milners, next time im going to Wilkinsons or somewhere like that. I want to do a second oil change anyway, but this one i did mineral and it did seem ok.

as for the filter, i had no problems accessing from the top but Rustic is right, its almost a certainty that upon loosening the filter, its gonna drain and make slippy, so id get some rags in there etc!

id say no, definately not. get a Nissan one if you can. I bought mine from Andrew Pages, and its just a Blue Print, but they seem to be really good-never had any issue with Blue Print stuff. This ebay one is very cheap, and paper inside, it doesnt sound up to the job to me?!

Oil Quality

Winter is here and now more than ever we rely on the properties of the engine oil to cut down on the effects of running an engine in minus temperatures - particularly starting.

So why are people here talking about buying cheap oil in wilkinsons or Asda?

It may have the correct numbers on the front of the container but are you really going to put cheapy oil like this in your engine.? If your engine were on its way out and burning more oil than diesil then I may forgive you.

There is a reason it's cheap!! unfortunately quality comes at a price - cheap oils break down / seperate under temperature, some don't hold their viscocity, some change viscocity outside specification when hot.

Do your truck justice and put some high quality oil in it.

I agree. It's brown blood. I always use the best oils. It's a false economy putting in cheap oil.

Same as petrol, V-Power for my vehicles. (Wife puts supermarket fuel in hers, its her choice)

So Mineral 15w40, Halfords do their own Brand for £18.99 is that any good?
The stuff at my local Country Store is £44!!!
