hi all,
i went out this morning to change the thermostat in the mav, (there is no hot air in the car and it runns completely cold all the time.)
any way popped the bonnet and took off the rad cap with great difficalty it was frozen on!!! when i took the cap off the water from the red started to rise and come over the top which i presume means there is quite a bit of ice in the system!!! it does smell like there is anti freeze in there but obviously not enough..
1st question what should i do about the ice??
2nd question can i use the car again i presume not...

cheers in advance :thumb2 gaz

As long as it hasnt pushed the core plugs (this would be obvious) then just let it warm up and refil with anti freeze

Hi

Think you will find that this is a natural thing, as the header tank (Rad top up bottle) is above the hight of the radiator and thus if rad cap is released the water will poor out of it.

As for the antifreeze or the lake of it? if the water poured out it probably has antifreeze in....run the engine and check for leaks.

Hope this helps
Steve.

will do does any one know the correct amount of antifreeze if i empty the system??
:thumb2

hmm so if i just drain what i need to and put 1ltr antifreeze back in that should be fine ????? do we think?:augie

You can buy a hydrometer type tester at most good parts/tool suppliers this will tel you what you have in but for my money I would just drain down and refil with the correct mix
